The new project

Sorry, I can't help you with that Andy. My last kitchen replacement was on the Isle of Man and my supplier/fitter was self employed and brilliant! I could ask him if he fancies a busman's holiday?

Sounds good Andy. Let's hope the fireplaces are the only mistake. As they've been taken out what will be done in that area now?

 

Any more photos of the progress of the project ? Sound like its moving at a pace.

We added gas fires in my study and the living room as there were fires and flues there when we moved in. The fires haven't been used for years and, other than a focal point, they serve no real purpose. If I was starting again now, I'd consider not having the fires.

 

Some great progress made there. Should be finished in a week or two .

Nice fireplace kit. Are they hand thrown bricks ? We had a wall of them when we moved in - extended to the right and into the entrance hallway and into my study - must've cost a fortune back in the day. Photo from when the brick was being plastered over and the hearth removed.

 

Do you have any arrangements/materials in place should you need to temporarily protect/secure the works?


There's a development of a dozen new houses being constructed in our village, and for a few weeks the external works have been accelerated out of sequence, working flat out to give the appearance of almost complete development when most houses are only weathertight shells.

I suspect they believe all work is about to cease shortly, and want to enhance the development to increase their chances of getting some interest/reservations during a shutdown to keep their bank happy. They have just put every property on the market, but the internal images are all of the same showhouse.

Yesterday some of their subcontractors were removing all their plant and materials.

 

The only thing you can do I think is to speak to your builders about the situation. Is there no way they could get it to the point of 'just' liveable for you to move in? Concentrating on working on the vital rooms at this point. Failing that, maybe a caravan on site that will be cheaper living than in a house? A little cramped but at least the warmer weather is on it's way.
