What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2020

Didn't do much in the garden today, I just cleared up buddleja and spiraea cuttings off the grass, then watered some of my potted plants. Bees all over the comfrey. First butterflies of the year spotted in the garden, a Small Tortoiseshell on a daisy, a Brimstone flying about and a Comma sunning itself.

Just back from making free plants.

I'm hoping that the seedlings that Ive transplanted from underneath my Echiveria gypsy are from that plant as the mature plant is stunning. The stems are pink so fingers crossed.

I then removed the rogue plant from this Euphorbia that we bought last summer - the leaves to the left are not part of the plant and the rogue plant had started to push the Euphorbia sideways.

More mixing soil and potting today, out of grit and john innes no3, ordered both online I don't want to do any traveling other than work if at all possible.

 

Further to the Sparrows and their nest boxes I had a root around and found an old nest box. It's old and bit battered looking but sound. R has had my car for past two days so haven't been able to go out to replace the original boxes. The other box isn't as bad as I thought. So, I removed the broken box this morning and put up the new box. Mr Sparrow was supervising me from the beech hedging. Soon as I finished he was straight over to inspect it. He loves it, much better than the old one he said and has lots of character features. He was so pleased with it he has spent all afternoon jumping up and down on the roof or banging about inside it. One of the female Sparrows is interested and has been checking it out

Today has been lovely, all day, warm and calm. I spent three and a half hours outside this afternoon, although I have to confess I spent most of it chilling on a zero g chair listening to the birds and watching the buns. It was there first time outside since last October and they went totally bananas. Lots of racing around at top speed, pulling wheelies and binkies . They are very tired tonight, flaked on rugs, not a peep out of anyone.

I did manage to dead head a few Daffs. I've also sorted out the patio container bed. The Scabious that were in there last year never recovered from mildew and have since died. Not sure what I am going to do about replanting yet. I added some poultry pellets to the compost. Also removed another Scabious from a pot. This one didn't do very well either and has been invaded by couch grass. I planted three more willow twigs by the boundary wall out front and cut the remaining two in half and stuck the four pieces into a pot of compost.

Seem to be down to three or four tadpoles . Any thoughts on what could have happened? No fish in the pond.

 

Britain has gone nuts, been picking and packing plug plants for 14 hours, and still the the orders are coming thick and fast, yesterday I joked about panic buying, today I am thinking WTF, 3 reams of A5 paper printed in packing slips, just today, I think I may get some sleep next weekend. Had to order plugs in from a large British company, andvthey have sold already, anyone need a job in the Bristol Bath area, £12 per hour, including all the food and drink you can consume.

Yes, according to the web Inverness to Bristol is 529 miles. You may like Glenmorangie and haggis and bacons sarnies but I don't drink and don't like haggis. Besides, there's a better distillery not far from where I live.

I'll do the neeps and tatties but everything else is off limit's I'm on a strict permanent diet sadly.

 

Flammin thermal printer run out of ribbon, and cannot get anymore until tuesday, time to fire up the old hewlett packard, I am not complaining, just panicking, never had so many orders, Royal mail are not goingvto like me tomorrow, turning up with 300 + packages all next week, god I hope they dont send people home

The site requested my date of birth but excepted a false one. I believe they only sell through the distillery as I've never seen it in the shops.

You can always tell the quality from the height of the copper stills, never heard of this distillary, just goes to show the vast quality of Scottish produce, just when you think you know, theres always another addition, I for one will miss Scottish produce (or the incrase in price), if you guys, decide to leave the union, love oats, whiskey, langoustine, and Rab C Nesbitt
