I wish I knew how long this distancing will need to go on. Then I can pace my to do list to suit. And when it is all past us, I'll have lots of time to socialize and not be thinking about jobs that need doing. All the one time jobs done and plenty of time to play in the garden when the weather starts getting better.

It snowed this morning, so those who have warmer weather should appreciate your mild conditions. The virus isn't going to stop your gulf stream!

I've just been given a laptop and told to work from home for the foreseeable future, I ticked a box on a risk assessment last week, but the situation will be kept under review and I could be back in next week.

There's an Exmoor campsite I've been visiting for about 40 years which has a very loyal visitor base, with visitors who first went as children now taking their grandchildren. I was rather surprised when they announced they'd be staying open a few days ago, but there was no way I'd visit now the schools have finished early as it would be far too busy.

As all other campsites are closing, I checked their website and facebook page this morning and from the comments on the latter from locals it appeared there was a concerted attempt to get them to close, which they did after a couple of hours. Sad outcome for all their loyal cutomers who they know by name, but necessary.

If everyone who wants to buy food at my local supermarket stood 6ft from the next person the queuing would be way out in the street and probably stretch for half a mile .
Just like it does out side the doctors, slightl exaggeration but not far off.

Just looking at it from another angle you could put the population into a similar position as intensive farming. We all know the problems involved in that. Jam any one species into a small area and disease spreads.
It's natural, and bound to happen if we go on as we are.

We are definitely on lockdown except for essential and necessary services and providers. One of the grocery store chains is allocating the first hour of opening to Police/Firemen/Ambulance/etc personnel, the second hour to over 65s then open to the public. Most stores don't open till 9am here.

I went to the hospital this morning for bloods and X-rays. There was a mobile cabin at the entrance door with a chap inside in mask and gloves who took your forehead temperature through a window before you could enter if you had an appointment. All other entrances/exits were closed off. Here is part of the Main Reception at 11,30am ...

                Alvor Reception.jpg

The roads there were deserted which includes the EN125 the main road East-West in Algarve.

We are keeping it safe here.

The birds in my garden aren't keeping their distance. Especially the robins who always stay within inches of me. rabbits are conscientiously keeping their distance.

I popped into the village shop (co-op) and almost everyone was keeping their distance - except the woman behind me who kept getting very close until I said to her to keep her distance, and others in the queue agreed. The shop was also limiting what you could get. e.g. one bottle of milk, any two proteins and no more (meat, chicken, fish) etc. One young man (30ish) was told at the till that he couldn't have about a quarter of his shopping. He politely said OK but that he would come back this evening. He was told that he would not be allowed back until tomorrow.

Apparently most people were friendly but they had received a bit of abuse - until the manager told them not to be unpleasant or they would be barred.

In general, everyone round here are distancing and polite. To be fair, it's a lot easier in a rural or country environment.

It's a case of what you've got to do that is right for yourself @pete .

I have no choice in the matter Pete, I don't drive and there are no bus services so every time I have to go shopping or pay bills or even get my electric key charged it costs me £10. Not being a driver I'd like to know what you count as " extortionate parking fees " , if it's less than £10 then I think you're lucky.

and I could strangle Geoff... the nasty ...
