HS2 Looks like it might be paused!

With a bit of luck national priorities may now change before it (ever?) re-starts, giving the government an excuse to abandon it, and avoid admitting they made a wrong decision.

I've just watched Michael Gove on the TV and he has clarified a number of points. These include: building work can continue as long as they can keep to the social distancing guidelines, garages can continue to service vehicles and do MOT's under the same restrictions and people can go to allotments as the nature of that means that distancing is in the nature of what that entails.

From that I would be inclined to read that gardeners should be able to continue their work as long as they are able to do the social distancing bit. I would interpret that, whether rightly or wrongly, that if it entails going though a house to get to the garden then you can't do it. Otherwise you can.

All the time he was emphasising that you must keep away from other people.

I dont think he specified once a week....I thought Bojo just said reduce the number of times to go out shopping - only when you really need to.

Had a facebook announcement yesterday that Leighton Buzzard's market was closing. Understandable but such a shame as it is a good little market. The poor traders.

Boris said, on TV last night, to try and restrict yourself to getting your shopping once a week. It's safer for everyone.

Allthough Blue Diamond Garden Centres emailed me to advise all their GCs are now closed, there does appear to be potential for GCs, Wilkos, etc. to stay open if they re-classify themselves as 'hardware stores' and restrict their sales accordingly (GCs will have to stop selling/barrier off all that non-gardening overpriced tat).

P.S. 'Albert's Ardware' of Watchet, West Somerset will probably have to be re-named Halbert's Hardware:

So do you reckon our timber yards will still be open? I'm thinking about if our car port app gets approved or if gets rejected and the fence will need finishing. Either way thank god we've got the pleached trees to block the neighbours out. don't want to see their ugly mugs every day ha ha

Oh OK..try....but with low stock obviously not going to happen. I've just re-read the guidelines published yesterday...I was right ' as infrequent as possible' . I was worried that poor Woo was going to be spending a day trying desperately to find food as he stated 'only allowed out once a week'.
