The minister has just had a go at the Mayor on the Downing St update.

He said that the crowding on the Tube wouldn't happen if the Mayor kept the full service running. He said that there would then be enough room on the trains to keep your distance.

He had a go about twice.

Apparently a lot of NHS staff use the Tube, so it shouldn't be shut down.

Khan is an idiot, he always seems to do the wrong thing:biggrin:

I'm still seeing TV news reporters standing outside stores, doing their bit to camera, saying how you should only be out if absolutely necessary.:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

It never has been necessary for these people to be out there wandering around at the best of times, let alone now.
            What is it all about?

If it's not shut down then people will use it. Why on earth wouldn't they? There is only one way to stop people bundling onto the tube and that is to stop it. Otherwise just accept that people will crowd into the little tubes and completely ignore the lockdown...

              Agree on Khan :)

The Tube is needed for essential workers, their profession could be linked to their oyster card so only nurses etc would be able to open the turnstiles. None of those idiots packing the tubes look like essential.

In principle, yes. In practice it wouldn't work. There is too much coding, checks and change required to implement that sort of preventive measure. They're also moving away from Oyster to contactless and have done a deal with Google so can't really tie it all together

Oh Lordy - don't say that! When I was visiting I had several problems with the Oyster card. It was almost as temperamental as our version, Presto Card. Imagine nurses not being able to board because the card malfunctions?

Then the minister is a complete muppet - there are many reasons for reducing the tube service, with one of the main ones being that a lot of transport staff are having to stay home due to either self-isolating or being in an at risk group. I had a conversation with one of my garages today, and they have lost 20% of their drivers in this one single day for that very reason.

I can fully understand that people see almost any work as essential, as it is essential to them to allow them to pay their bills - - bluntly, if that work would not be possible if there were bombs being dropped on us, then it is not essential now, and that includes Mrs Jones getting her new kitchen fitted etc.

The more we faff around and try to do the British thing and carry on regardless, the longer this whole thing will drag on.

First the NT, now the RSPB have closed, all due to that nutty policy of making them free and inviting the whole country to descend on them free of charge.

The Wildlife Trusts are still encouraging people to visit, I wish they'd shut up keep quiet before they're also told to shut every reserve down.

And I expect the Government to use emergency powers to seize control of TfL any day now.

To slow infection down so that the NHS can function.

That is exactly what it is all about, EVERYONE is going to get it, they can not stop it
So by isolating, it reduces infection to many
Meanwhile the NHS treat who they can, and try to build up supplies and resistance,

When they have more equipment, and staff, Then they can let the rest of us older ones out to catch it with a chance of getting through it, As they are better prepared

Well I've been out to work and I am still not a clue if I can or can't go :noidea: . I've seen loads of vans - builders / roofers and others out today and people walking about. The government need to be much more clear , Gove says builders can work then khan says don't then sturgeon says gardeners and window cleaners can work as long as hygiene / distance is done , its all over the place with to many mixed signals.
