We got groceries for our 92 year old cousin who is totally all there ,a little unstable on her feet.
She is devastated she can’t have her hair done at the hairdressers tomorrow as she does every Saturday.
Even more devastated that we couldn’t go in for tea......I said Boris said no.......She said bugger Boris lol.
She is on her own with good neighbours but it’s already taking it’s toll.

Boris's motto "Do as I say not as I do"

Our illustrious leaders are setting a great example ... NOT!

Boris and the Chief Medical Officer have both got the virus.

There was no need for them to do their daily briefings together in the same building. They could just as easily used video calling instead of wasting valuable NHS resources on themselves - good grief! And I suspect many of their staff have caught it too from being needlessly put at risk.

Good evening @JWK sorry we shall have to agree to to disagree my friend .;):smile:Boris is a leader, its in his character if you like,he likes to lead from the front,he knew he had the virus last night at 8pm when he stood outside 10 downing street and clapped for all the NHS staff the same as the rest of us ,I suppose that was wrong as well, but then he is never going to win what ever action he took ,thank God it wasn't Corbyn he would have been in hiding and people would have said were his he:dunno:

Sorry, John, I disagree:dunno: Boris, Matt Hancock, etc, have been under great pressure from all sides to be making decisions immediately and they have had to meet all sorts of people at all sorts of levels, at least one of whom probably gave them the Virus and there was no instant answer to deal with every problem and person from a distance. If they had shut themselves off immediately weeks ago they would have been accused of hiding away. I don't think either you or I would have done anything different than they have been forced to do because of media, public and political pressure and we would have contracted the virus. It's a case of being between a rock and a hard place while also not being able to do right for doing wrong.:wallbanging::coffee:

I have to say I agree with both of you here, being a labour voter (which is not the topic) I don't think Corbyn would have the capacity to be decisive, that said I've always felt Johnson is a buffoon but I honestly feel he is doing what he can in a such a difficult situation, I wouldn't like to question his decisions because I haven't got a clue what to do,
he is acting on advice of the people who are most qualified to advise, i think he has looked worn out this last week but i have to say when your
                Prime minister
Secretary of state for health and social care both have the virus and the Chief medical officer is now self isolating because he is showing symptoms, there must be loads of people thinking "bloody hell and they're telling me how to look after myself"

I think you could say the same about everyone who has caught it, why has anyone got it?

It's out there and if you are doing your still doing your job I think there is a very good chance anyone could pick it up.
Apart from NHS workers I think delivery people and post office staff are at risk, but some things have to go on, we can't all hide.

Love that Corbyn is prating away that he won the argument and was right all along. That little turd should have just departed and handed over to someone competent.

The point I was trying to make was not whether TV was essential or not but that the 900 or so employees are not even involved in the technical side of it and are sitting close to one another, the technical side is small and could remain open as essential but all staff are being included as essential even those at high risk with underlying issues, and most of these could operate from home.

Jeepers, that's a tough one to answer tactfully and I mean no disrespect to anyone.
Bearing in mind that I am a socialist it surprised me that I feel that the damage done to the economy is too high a price to have paid. Sadly the financial cost will be paid by our young and it will be paid for many years to come by them. But there will be a hidden cost too as discussed (very eloquently) by Matthew Paris in The Times last week and reproduced in the link below................
Matthew Paris: Crashing The Economy Will Also Cost Lives - The Global Warming Policy Forum (GWPF)

I accept that it is not a popular, or even palatable, point of view but it is not to be shirked. The harsh fact is that the cutbacks post 2008 in all walks of public spending (education, healthcare, welfare, law and order etc) will seem small compared to what is coming to pay for this. Money makes the world go around I'm afraid and never is that more true than when it comes to opening the public purse up for those in need.
So was BoJo right? My gut feeling is that he has gone about it wrong. But is it right to leave a portion of society vulnerable, even if that percentage is estimated to be less than one percent? Not really. And that in a nutshell is why we need a more competent, and cooler, hand on the wheel at a time such as this than Boris.
For perspective I should state that my former partner tested positive ten days ago. She had been self isolating since a member of staff in her office went down with the virus. I last saw her on the 16th February which was theoretically before the infection arrived in her (New York) office but as I am still listed as her partner on her file I have been able to take advantage of the course of four weekly tests that her employer is paying for. This is a comfort for my new partner and I but I also accept that my comments above are made with a relative sense of security about our own current status re the virus.

To be honest, longk, I don't see what relative security you have:dunno:
Testing will either confirm that you have the virus or not.........it will not stop you getting Covid 19:doh:
What appears to be happening with Covid 19 is that, should you contract it, the test will only confirm that you have it and, as experience is showing, you would by then be showing symptoms anyway:wallbanging: So a test is really only useful for those Key Workers who may have shown symptoms but, in fact, only have a cold. So the test would be negative and allow the tested Key Worker to return to work.
