My son works at logistics facility and it is a pharmaceutical one. They are currently deploying COVID19 test kits and there is a real need for those who have or are are displaying symptoms. The need is real and keeping up with the demand whilst strictly adhering to protocols is a monumental challenge.

I cannot imagine anyone taking advantage of a free kit just to feel good or secure without having displayed any symptoms. :nonofinger:

Just my opinion but ... shame!!! Just stay home or keep your distance and keep meticulously clean if you can't stay home. :gaah:

Not really @ARMANDII, Boris didn't have to hide himself away, all he needed was to set a good example by not holding his daily briefings in a room full of people. We all watch him through the camera lens so it doesn't matter if the camera is in his flat. He could have used the same technology all us home-workers are doing right now to communicate. He would have earned more respect by empathising with us. No one was forcing him to put himself at risk, not the media and certainly not the public, I wouldn't have done what he did especially with a pregnant partner. Don't forget that the media had already cottoned on that it was a bad idea to attend those briefings in person and joined by video link which worked fine.

I agree he is a leader and a determined or obstinate one. He showed that character tonight as he broadcast from his flat obviously looking worse for wear, he might have picked up some sympathy votes there. But he was ill advised to put himself at risk previously and my gripe is that he has tied up some NHS resources better spent on people who catch the bug through no fault of their own. Now he has effectively shot himself in the foot and may be out of action at the time we need him most.

Data emerging from studies of the outbreak in the Far East estimate presymptomatic transmissions at 45 to 65%. The incubation period is 2 to 14 days with a further 2% ( approx) of carriers remaining asymptomatic.

But, as I said, testing will only show that you either have, or have not, Covid 19, it won't stop you from contracting the virus which, obviously, I sincerely hope you do not. But as I said, testing should not give you any sense of security as that is not what it is designed to do, or is for. All practical experience, in the UK, shows that by the time the test shows that you have Covid 19 you would already be showing symptoms of it.:wallbanging:

That wasn't the Media idea, John, that was the Senior Medical Officer idea. By the time, the Media had agreed and it was set up the damage was done.

I am beginning to wonder if English is still my first language.....................
It is not about feeling good. It is about making sure that I did not catch it when I was with Libby and then pass it on to my partner. The final test is next week and then I am on my own as it were.

I receive the result in less than 48hours, far less than the potential 14 days and far, far better than being one of the asymptomatic carriers who would be totally unaware that they have the virus at all.

You do speak English, longk, I assure you:thumbsup:.
But I fail to see how the test would prevent you from catching Covid 19 as, again, practical experience has show that you would already be showing symptoms when you took the test and by then would have already passed it on to your partner:dunno: You could have even taken a test shown to be negative and then 2 days later contracted the virus and within another day or two passed it, unwittingly, onto your partner. So, that sense of security you originally said testing gave you would be false.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

So, because test was paid or by her company and is free to you, that makes it right that you use kits that could have been better applied to someone else? Or are you elderly?

Don't get me wrong , I hope you don't get touched by this pandemic and I'm sure you're taking precautions such as not making social visits to your lovely lady in the city or using transit for social reasons. I'm just a bit teed off about the way you described your situation.

Like everyone else here, I haven't seen my kids, grandkids or friends for weeks and this pestilence inflicted on us all is getting on my nerves when my perceptions of your situation irritate me. :dunno:

I crashed last night before the news came out and am up connecting with family in Canada. Ireland is now in lockdown. Folk over 70 as I am are to be "cocooned" as indeed I already am, and travel to offshore islands ie where I live is to be limited to residents thereof. I imagine an exception will be made for our postman who is also the community services rep here. Thankful I got everything sorted here before this as is was clear this would come.

Apart from taking care not to come into contact or anywhere near people I still need to go to get food (as infrequently as possible) and the post still gets delivered.

If it is possible I leave the shopping out of the way without touching it. We have a covered pergola where I leave it and others have their garage. Things that may need to be refrigerated get their packaging washed or wiped. Veggies and fruit are washed.

Mail is treated in a similar way. Any obviously non-important mail is put outside for a week. Other mail is wiped over with a damp cloth before opening and discarding the envelope. The contents are also wiped. The cloth is washed.

We're doing what we can :noidea:

Really needs an antibacterial wipe. Same for the cloth; or soapy.
