    Good afternoon.

We have inherited a lovely garden but there are a lot of suspiciously dead looking things!I think this might be a Spiarea Bridal Wreath. It has a couple of tiny leaves but looks really ropey. can I cut it back? is it beyond saving?
    Thank you in advance IMG_4583 (1).jpeg IMG_4584 (1).jpeg

Personally I wouldn't like to guess what it is, but quite a lot of things look suspiciously dead:biggrin: at this time of the year.

I'd give things another couple of months to get going and ID before jumping in with the loppers.

Having said that, it does look like it needs a bit of sorting out but not beyond saving.

@Tara Jane Don't know much about these I'm afraid, only have a Summer-flowering one and pruning is completely different for those. I'd let it do its own thing this year and then prune after flowering, that's if it is what you think it is. It seems to be coming into flower but hard to tell from the photos. It does seem to be leafing/flowering a bit late considering the fact that it should be flowering next month! But perhaps this is due to poor pruning/lack of pruning in previous years. Hopefully someone will come along soon who can identify it correctly and advise accordingly! :)

Thank you very much. I will stay it’s execution a little longer. The house was owned by an old couple and I think the garden must have got away from them as it’s pretty wild with ivy and brambles. Everything is overgrown and I’m much happier growing veg than flowers. Our garden was totally veg when I grew up. I’d know what to do if it was full of leaks!!

Thank you very much. I’ll see what it does before I attack it. I don’t know much about flowering gardens. Think I might dig the lot up and fill it with potatoes!

I’m sorry. I missed your reply. I think you are right. It is starting to leaf up now and as my neighbour has a spiraea I can see it looks nothing like it! I’ll put the saw back in the shed!
              Thank you very much.
