What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2020

That stiff, freezing cold, breeze from the NorthEast was back again today but I decided to do some jobs in the more sheltered parts of the garden. I started off on the East path and, on my knees again, started to scrape and brush the path and then dumping, the soil and debris into another garden sack. I've decided to leave 4 or 5 garden sacks around the garden so that when I'm in a area of the garden, weeding, cleaning the borders of dead plant stems and leaf, etc, there will be a sack available nearby. There are still a couple of sackfuls of Conifer prunings, leaves, pulled up weeds and debris lying on the bottom end of the middle path so that is definitely a job for tomorrow so that I can dump them into the already half full Green Waste Bin ready for the, hopefully, collection by the Bin Men (Gawd bless 'em), on Monday.
I also decided to clear the bottom of the "walk around" border of, (you've guessed it!) even more dead plant stems, leaves and other debris. That bottom area is around 23' wide and about 15' long and has several Peonies, clumps of Japanese Anemones, Leycesteria, Eryngium, hundreds of Snowdrops, lots of Primula and Ferns, so I had to be careful where I put my feet and also kneltBut I actually enjoyed pulling out loads of dead stems, grabbing handfuls of debris lying on the surface of the soil and throwing it onto the path where the Conifer prunings, etc was lying, and seeing how good that area looked after sorting it out gave me a good feeling of achievement. I have to confess that it's not a area I normally keep tidy as I regard it as a haven for any wildlife around and so I leave the Hardy Perennials and shrubs in that area to get on with things themselves, but it does look better now.
I also tried to open up a brand new 5' long metal "Picnic" table which was to go under the Kitchen table ready to put the Cacti and Carnivorous plants on during the warmer months but found that the legs at one end couldn't be pulled into place due a metal brace connecting both legs had been put too high and was jamming against the leg opening bar. So, using science (brute force), I managed twist the metal brace outwards so that the opening bar was clear and the legs would lock in place The table actually fits perfectly in place, the legs clearing the drain covers which was more luck than judgement So that was another job done. After that I watered/fed the Bearded Iris in the 57 or more large pots. That took 6 Watering Cans full of a weak solution of organic feed and then I refilled the 5 Watering Cans I was using adding 25mms of the Organic Feed to the Watering Cans ready for the next use......which will be the Roses.
The day was so cold I was wearing my mucky gardening clothes, a Fleece, a Body Warmer and a "Lumber Jack" Coat and I must have looked a "right sight", but I didn't care as I was warm

 

It's a stupid thing for the Council to do as they should be trying to keep such things as normal so that the Community doesn't suffer more than it has to.

 

My model is 1994, has never gone wrong and had a service every other year. The new one is pricey but I managed to get 20% off.

I've now got to decide what to do with the old one.
