WHAT'S BUZZING OR FLYING NEAR YOU 2020

I don't think I have seen two Nuthatches together before but these two obviously were for a reason!!


As I started walking away I watched again!

 

Saw a Tawny Mining Bee in the garden yesterday, I think. Question: If they make a nest, will mowing the lawn destroy it? I'd like them to settle!

Mining bees tend to nest underground Nick, I don't think mowing will be a problem. They are quite persistent too when they find the right place so mowing won't disturb them.

 

@Sheal I've seen a couple of song thrushes in the last few days but not in the garden for years, nice to see.
Today we went for a short walk in Wareham forest, no one else around and had a close view of a Woodlark singing and a Wheatear but I didn't take the camera with me!

 

Thanks @Sheal, excellent, hope I get some nesting here! Today was a day of childlike excitement for me because for the first time ever (OK, since I started paying attention a few years ago) I had a male Orange Tip butterfly visit my garden! Hopefully the Ajuga reptans will entice them to stop and feed when it flowers and they will become frequent visitors. Going to order some Cardamine pratensis for them soon.

Now and again one sits on our chimney pot and sings, it echoes down the stack into our lounge and sounds twice as loud.

It is exciting when something new turns up. It doesn't take much to please us gardeners/nature lovers does it?

I was wondering about that one, as some are mixed in with the Skylarks. Being in rough grass amongst relatively new woodland means lots of opportunities for perching shots. In the absence of virtually anything else to go and photograph, I'm going to try and improve my skills photographing these birds during lockdown (as we walk there most days). Now watching for first birds returning with beaks full of grubs to feed newly hatched young.
