Plastic Greenhouse

My daughter bought me one of these little greenhouses for mother's day.I live in rented accommodation so dont want a permanent one. From what I've read,most gardeners don't reckon them but as it's a gift I'm going to give it a try. I've tried to put the frame together but its driving me mad! I get one pole in,perhaps two and then the ones I've put together come apart! Is there anything that I could put in the holes to help them hold the poles and keep them together? I've abandoned it till tomorrow! Thanks

 

You have to really push those rods home. If you don't have the strength in your hands, push the two parts against a hard surface to help.

Sad to say. Many keen gardeners soon become victims of todays scammers. Yes, most manage to stay within the law when describing their product...just.

 

Sometimes it helps to wear a rubber glove to get a really good grip.

 

I'm not one of them . The plastic greenhouses do help - they stop bugs and drafts getting to the seedlings. Glass/polycarbonate greenhouses aren't that much better. No one is ever critical of polytunnels - very popular on allotments - they're really only large plastic greenhouses.

I've had a couple of the small plastic greenhouses - they do their job - haven't had any cause to complain .

 

They are if they are bigger Much easier to control the climate in a greenhouse the bigger it is. For anyone out to work each day (well ... not just now ) the Zip-Ups are very difficult to control, plants will cook if they are closed up and the sun comes out. Similarly polytunnel compared to glasshouse; unless the polytunnel has been built with roll-up sides the only ventilation is at each end, whereas you can have as many "roof lights" as you like in a glasshouse - notwithstanding that to make the price look reasonable most amateur glasshouses are sold with far too few IMHO

Automatic vents on Greenhouse require no electricity (by using expanding wax to push the vents open)

I've had permanent greenhouses in the past, I only do a little gardening these days.

 

I have brought a plastic walk in greenhouse hope its going to be okay its my first year greenhouse growing. Will keep you posted

I have one pretty much like this , or in fact two The first one ripped from the seams in the first high winds so I asked for a replacement cover but the manufacturer sent a whole new greenhouse. Plenty of handy building material!

The number two held together very well last summer but as a precaution I reinforced the seams with a duckt tape.

Even though this walk in version is bigger, the temperature is hard to control during the working week. However, it is very handy to harden things off and to lessen the load on windowsills. I take the cover off in the summer and use the frame as a support for my toms. The shelves are practical. This year I have built a raised bed in the bottom, currently it's covered with fleece but as soon as the tomatoes go in I will set the plastic cover up.

(Before anyone asks, yes, it's moss in the coffee jar. Very pretty. )

I don't think it's a matter of being scammed really, she bought it from a reputable garden centre and it wasn't all that expensive. It's like anything else, you get what you pay for? I'll do my best with it!
