WHAT'S BUZZING OR FLYING NEAR YOU 2020

Mainly from mites sometimes transmitted via shared perches but uncleaned feeders are suspected too.

 

I met him at Slimbridge around 1965, asked for his autograph but he said he was too busy but he said send your autograph book and he would sign it. I did and back it came with an ink drawing of a Canada Goose, I still have it in the loft, he even saved the Hawaiian Goose from Extinction.

My late FiL (died aged 98 last year) used to live 3 miles from Slimbridge and met him many times, and tell us about the early days, plus stuff like helping to found Bardsey as a reserve, and being a founder member of just about every wildlife organisation. Found an old diary of his several weeks ago from when he was 12, complete with detailed bird sightings for most days.

Sadly many folk are perhaps put off from approaching famous people. Don't be.

Not boasting in any way, but due to my various associations etc, I brush shoulders with lots. So often I find that this smoke screen of importance etc is just that. So many I find are truly humble folk and of course love to talk about themselves. The clue is in the answer.

@joolz68 Yes and no! yes, a male Reed Bunting but no, not it's nest. Their nest will be very low down in the reeds and open, cup shaped not domed. I am not sure what it is.

 

This chap didn't buzz or fly, but thought the wildlife aficianados here might be interested. We get a lot of big, green praying mantises (mantii?) but it's the first time I've seen a pink one! I'm told it's a Conehead Mantis. Probably a good job it wasn't named for it's rear end

 

I have never seen one of those @noisette47 only green ones, I have only just discovered that they only live for a year similar to Wasp Spiders which I think you also have.
I am surprised that they haven't made their way here like the Wasp Spiders.

 

Hi strongy It is the first time I've spotted one, too! Yes, anything black, yellow and vicious we have in abundance. Joy.....
