Corona Virus Treatment

Shades of my elderly lady clients They'd start on the apéros at 11am, sherry, vermouth, gin etc. One of my 'gardening' jobs involved wrapping the empties in newspaper ready to drop (silently) into the bin. Got to keep up appearances darlink!

 

Probably unheard of in UK, but Professeur Raoult of Infectious Diseases Research Unit in Marseille claims to have discovered just that, using anti-malarial drugs. Bit of a scandal here as his findings are being suppressed, presumably due to their effect on vested governmental interests.

I do think care is needed before making "findings" like that public (but I have no knowledge of whether that is what is going on in France ... vested interests also possible of course ) otherwise you get the sort of unmitigated disaster that Andrew Wakefield caused by claiming that MMR caused Autism.

Scientists recognise the need to get Peer Review (of their experiments) before Publication, so that other scientists attempt to reproduce the findings and make sure it is actually reproducible / true before someone goes blurting it out to the media - because that has the potential to cause mass panic (or everyone starts taking anti malarial drugs needlessly ... they aren't particularly pleasant)

Measles, which was formerly under control, has become a significant problem globally because that FUD has meant that not enough children are being vaccinated ... all because Wakefield went to the press with his, subsequently widely disproved and discredited, theory (and it subsequently came to light that Wakefield was funded by the solicitors trying to bring a class action against the MMR vaccine producers); he has since been struck off the medical register.

I have no idea if that is the perceived issue in France, but I do think there is good reason why peer review should happen before the general public are told ... just in case it turns out to be wrong ... like Cold Fusion!

 

Yes, quite right. We are still "harmonised" though, so nothing changed ... yet.

 

I think we had something about that early in this thread, thought the idea started in the far east somewhere, but cant remember exactly.
I think even Trump mentioned it in one of his speeches before the US was shut down.

 

There is a professor, darnit, why didn't I bookmark that article, that has proven that those who are asymptomatic or have extremely mild cases gradually experience a diminished sense of smell. The article went on to say that if you are finding the smell of peanut butter less and less strong, it is a good heads up that you are perhaps dangerous to those around you, being a carrier.

It did mention that a snoot full of the smell of vinegar for starters "wakes" up your sense of smell and perhaps do that first.

This was in one of the major national newspapers that has a good reputation for accurate reporting. Not one of those rags.
