@rustyroots I have Red Alert seeds, a very early cropping bush tomato, plus some others suitable for following on. PM me.

I normally keep a good stock of reduced/obtained free seeds that'll last for a few years (remember those 2005 gardeners delight I still had a few years ago @JWK ?), but this year I thinking of sowing loads of them for free tomato plants.

What would be the recommendation for which supermarket Toms might be suitable sources of seed (I am meaning specifically in extremis)? or maybe "none of them" ...

Maybe a topic for another thread about alternative sources of Veg seed?, as it looks like most seed companies are sold out. I also wonder what the status is likely to be, in the Autumn, for seeds for next year, and whether seed growers will have been able to produce the full range / qty.

None of them apart from those @misterQ has tried successfully.

Time for loads of seed saving, just in case.

Growing lots of tomatoes all grown from seed, chillies, lots of veg going to have too much for myself but shall donate to all my neighbours and some of my friends just by leaving some plants over their gate as it gets warmer for them to plant in their own Greenhouse and got lots of courgettes they can even go in the garden. It will become time that I shall run out of compost then gardening shall become a challenge.

I've run out of mpc for the pots so might have to try planting some in the ground this year, I know the Range is open but have to dodge the rozzers to get there.

@RobB you are in the same position as many of us. If you plant in soil (and especially if it was used for tomatoes the previous year) then use Rootgrow.

I will be using it this year for sure.

Nothing has been there before, a bit of a waste patch so will try to get some rootgrow unless I run the gauntlet to the Range, it's near Tesco.:) but not today;)

I was late sowing, then broke all the rules in the book, I sowed in an unheated greenhouse with no artificial heat or light, I sowed seed saved from a very tasty corner-shop tomato.

I've been lucky, pretty good germination and the seedlings are doing well.

Manx Marvels were first off the block followed closely by the "corner-shop" variety.

I was lucky, please don't try this at home!

Sungold and Gardeners Delight, that were kindly donated by JWK have germinated. Currently about 80% germination.

                      Thanks again JWK.

Same as usual for me. Sungold (x5) for the greenhouse and Tumbling Tom (x6) for outside.
Interested in that Rootgrow @JWK . I assume it’s something you just water in?

The plants from the Floridity seed I sowed on the 10th of March are now nearly a foot tall, GD and Sungold slightly taller, growing a bit too fast, I will leave putting them in their final buckets until the middle of May.
