That looks fantastic, it just looks so natural as if it's in the wild somewhere
If it were me I'd plant a late flowering Clematis there too to extend the season.

It's a pet hate of mine when people dig out old dead tree stumps they make excellent supports for climbers.

    Well done :)

Havent been on here much this week. Ive been busier than normal since lockdown. Sending a lot of plants out in the post and helping my wife set up a new business.

Today Ive taken two holly bushes out of large square pots. They had outgrown the pots so had to go. Ive then re-potted two agaves in the pots, adding plenty of small gravel for drainage. Its also added a load of weight ! The pots were eventually put in position after a lot of grunting, getting the sack barrow to move.

Chucked tatties and leeks in buckets and fleeced them. That should feed us with a nice Vichysoisse in September

General potting up, and watering, watering, watering. I even watered the small front lawn as we have put so much effort on it with spiking, sanding, topdressing etc and it's now actually more grass than moss and parched blades. In general I don't want to water the lawns as it's so wasteful to pour that amount of drinking water into a, honestly speaking, bit of vanity but now I'm coming up with excuses by the dozen.

Blackbirds have suffered a sad first nesting, they tried to move the nest to another corner after a cat found it's way into the ivy, one chick didn't make it and was found dead near the pond and now the rest seem to have perished as well. The parents have been desperately calling them to come out all weekend, but there is no sight of any chicks. Now the parents have stopped feeding the nest and are again doing the mating serenade. Better luck with the second round, little friends!

                  Hello all

I hope you are all well.

Well, I have finally finished weeding the front, side and back gardens so I am now at the point where I can just pull any weeds I see as I walk around the garden, a nice place to be :)

It took a while but now I can enjoy the garden without stressing over all the weeds, although, the grass that seems to appear in the borders from nowhere is a real annoyance.

                  Thanks

                  Kevin

Yes i know how you feel, somebody told me that it doesn't like growing below 4 inches so i tried covering it with 4 inches of compost and it sort of worked, just got to do it again and another patch.

It is supposed to rain tomorrow. Yes rain, NOT snow. Hurrah! To be fair, the snow lately has melted by 10 o'clock in the morning but it was still annoying to see in late April.

With rain coming I figured I'd better get out there and do some maintenance. I played around in the dirt in the raised beds getting them loosened up and leveled out and ready for more plants. (My allium are coming up nicely :)

I did a lot of tidying and filling up 3 gallon empty pots with soil and wetting them down to be ready for potting up my peppers in a few days. The pots in the unheated greenhouses were already filled so I just had to wet them down.
And I got a fantastic offer by email for some primula:yes: I have wanted those since @shiney posted a picture of them awhile back. So exciting!! I believe I pick them up on Tuesday.

Raked the nasty flotsam that the maple tree out front has dropped on what lawn is left. It is an ugly Norwegian maple that the town planted 32 years ago. It drops those keys two or three times a year and gets black spot. And I do believe the lawn underneath is dying because of it. :mute:

I hooked up the low flow watering system that feeds the raised beds and the greenhouses. Looks like only one winter casualty to replace and I have the parts needed.

Altogether a wonderful day in the sunshine and not having to wear a jacket as it was at least 55f. :)

Today in the garden we had the live performances "The Taming of the Loganberry" and "Lopping the Lavatera" both in the key of F (capital), with the accompanying choir "Ooohya bugger" and also with guest appearances from the performer "Owya Ba*stard" littered through the entire perormance.

I decided to have a "take stock" day and take some time just sitting in the different areas and looking at the garden borders and those plants in pots on the Patio to what was in the "right" place, what was doing well, and what was not. I've got 5 Knautias, of different colours, in pots sitting on the soil of the East side of the "Walk around" border but I'm still not sure if they're in the proper place as yet. Also my borders are somewhat crowded with what is mostly Hardy Perennials and so I have to consider what future shade they will cast on other plants, and any new plants I'm planning to put in spots when they get to full height.
While wandering around I discovered 2 Red Lily Beetles basking in the sunshine on some Lilies in a large pot by the Kitchen door so I dealt with them and then found another two on the same Fritillaria that I'd found about 6 of them yesterday so they won't be around anymore.
A lot of the Alliums are about to burst into flower as well as some of the Perennial Poppies so they will soon be adding more colour to the borders.
I retreated to the Patio after taking some notes on some, (maybe). changes in the borders and sat with a Mug of Tea in the sunshine. I'd got the Cayeux Iris Catalogue in the post in the morning and so I did a check on the over 50 or so Bearded Iris sitting on the Patio in large pots . Some are ones I bought years ago, some were generously sent to me by @noisette47 a couple of years ago. some I bought from Superstores, some from various Nurseries, some from Farmer Gracy, and a series of buys from Cayeux, so it's a bit of a mixed lot:dunno: There's about 6 or so that I've bought this year so I'm not expecting much from them this year but they should flower next year. Anyway, I had a look through the Cayeux catalogue and because, (any excuse), it had just been my Birthday. I bought more 10 Bearded Iris after following my heart in the choosing of the different colours and shapes:wallbanging::dunno: I should never go near a plant catalogue or a Plant Nursery as it's not good for my Bank Manager's health:doh:
After that I watered the borders. the lawn. and the Hardy Perennials in pots on the Patio and in the Green House and decided I'd not had a bad day.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:
