First young Siskin arrived with dad this morning and was promptly chased off by a sparrow.

Seeing a lot of American Gold Finches this year for some reason, not that I mind.

 

That's a pretty bird Hydrogardener, it looks very much like a canary.

 

Sheal, I called them wild canaries for years until I got more into bird watching. They are just getting into their breeding colors and will get more vibrant as the season progresses.

 

European Gold Finch, taken a couple of days ago when the branches were swaying in the wind and the only bird I could get a pic of was perching on some overhead electric cables.

An unprecedented avian phenomenon today as Red Kites are not at all common in Dorset but 70+ were seen over the Swanage to Bournemouth area and over 100 between Bridport and Weymouth in just 3 hours. Probably coming from France. I only had 2 over the garden!
Distant but nice to see.

 

They are good to see Strongy. I stood watching a Buzzard being tackled by a Crow today but the Buzzard didn't retaliate.

 

More of our Siskins, the main pair have been visiting several times a day since January.
Still only one youngster.

 

Just came back from our walk and just seen a pair of Geese with their young, first time we have had geese around here, i'm hoping they will come back next year

 

The adult Siskins are scruffy looking birds. There are two pairs visiting the garden at the moment, probably brought in by the chilly weather. I saw three young Dunnocks sitting huddled together on the garden fence yesterday, their parents were flying to and from the feeders to fill their bellies.

 

Just enjoyed the usual early visit from the cuckoo.. I will miss him. What is very noticeable out here in what is well known as a midge hot spot is the lack thereof.. There has only this year been ONE day they have been around. Bliss! I see and hear bees and certainly there are a few flies.

 

When I was watering the garden just now, a bird sitting on the electricity cable sang such a sweet song to me. They never come nearer as they know I have CATS. But such joyous music
