How long will your Leucospermum flower for now @pete ?

 

Nearly forgot this one; it takes me by surprise every year.

Well not really sure, but the first flower has been opening for about three weeks, so the larger of the two was where the smaller one is now.
Protea plants tend to hold their flowers for quite a few weeks, they are not short lived flowers.

 

Not sure @Victoria - I will have to crouch down to smell it (I may not be able to get up again!)

 

Hi @Perki I love your black and white pots of tulips and narcissi - very chic! The banksia is in an unheated section of the greenhouse, in a compost which is MPC with at least 1/3 grit to make it poor and well drained. It should have been ericaceous but I didn't have any. I feed only occasionally with seaweed because they die if they get phosphorus. It has only produced one flower to completion this year - though 2 others started they just sat there without growing any further. I am not as capable as @pete - he only bought that leucospermum last year and now look at it! Proteas and banksias are a bit iffy. My protea scolymocephala was stuck outside for the winter when I came here and survived, and then last year when I got the greenhouse to protect it, it upped and died!

 

I tend to think that the Protea family dont like to be cosseted, they like to be treated hard, they seem to like air and cold conditions over winter, just not bad frost.
Well drained and poor acidic soil.

And a good sunny spot.

I like the Geum @KFF ... is it Mrs Bradshaw? I had some years ago and lost it but have more seeds, also lost my Diascus. My Chabaud are blooming.

 

Hi Vicky , yeah it's Mrs Bradshaw . got another one which is a smaller orange flower but it's not started yet, I think ( I could be wrong I'll check it for when it flowers) it could be G. Borissi.

 

Hi @Victoria - I have smelled my Corydalis 'Rainier Blue' in morning and evening and can find no trace of perfume. Maybe other varieties do smell - in the same way only some hemerocallis have perfume.

 

Corydalis blue dragon is the best scented

 

The one I have is Corydalis elata and it supposedly smells like mild Gardenia ... so I will have to wait and see.
