What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2020

Just had 3 x 60ltrs of mpc and 1 x 60ltrs of ericeacous compost delivered, is that gardening?

The garden centres are open but hubby didn't want to risk it.

 

Watered the barren Veg plot! Why? There is method in my madness, with warmer weather on it's way I want to encourage all the weed seed to germinate, grow and get killed by me before I plant out my veg........... (made sense to me?)

We've had a very dry period and the soil is like concrete.

 

Well I've been out and mowed the lawn and trimmed the hedges , the allium are starting to open now so the garden finally coming alive again and filling out. Unfortunately the frost last night has nipped my spuds tops which were fleeced and looks like its totally wiped out the Wisteria ( fleeced ) which were about to flower next week pissed off is a understatement , sometimes I wonder why I bother growing the dam thing but I am a sucker for wisteria . I've got some plants to pick up from dove cottage on Saturday + first bike ride since early march hopefully so that may cheer me up.

 

Just where are you Islander77? Achill, Toremore or A N Other, my late mother was born and bought up in Westport, spent many a day there on our summer hols, me mainly in the pubs!!! But in those days, most shops had a bar?

 

Mainly been observing and watering over the past couple of days. Waiting really for things to settle in and find their way. I did come across a couple of new leaves in the top of one of the new Laurel plants with rust coloured dots on them. Read up and it seems it could be a fungal infection. When I read further there are a few different types and reasons for this so I've just nipped the leaves off for now before attacking with lotions and potions

Hubby brought me 2 awful plants back from the local B&M yesterday and said he thought they would look lovely in the border I agreed and put them in the corner of the back garden. Because they love full sun and that's the ideal spot for them of course . I'm not going to name them as I'm sure most people think they are lovely. (I'm a little odd like that ha)

 

I think it can be a good approach with some weeds, I have done the same on a bed last year and it worked. At least, after for several months I had to remove very few. I guess it is all about the timing though, catching them before they got to seed. Would not chance it with bindweed though, we have so much is some parts of the garden and finding and removing the roots after would be a royal pain.

I took them for self watering pots of some sort, I am a bit ignorant.

 

I use capillary watering for all of my greenhouse plants. So easy. And I have hooked up the fertilizer injector to the low flow watering system that feeds everything including the the capillary troughs.

Today I moved a lot of plants into the unheated greenhouses because our overnight low will be 45f and from now on it will be warmer and never go below that.

I also moved a lot of seedlings out into the open to get a nice watering from the rain. Hung out all, of the hanging pots.

And then looked at what's left in the greenhouse that has to come out for when the chilies get potted up and stay in there.

Think I grew too many seedlings. I'm predicting lots of porch drops. ..

 

Well, I brushed the dirt from a bunch of pots and tried them out on one bed.
Preparing for the big planting day tomorrow, I am so glad the cold is leaving and this is the last night I need to keep the plant covered (fingers crossed!).
I am getting a bit restless, frankly, I hope I can plant it all out.
Also, I snipped a few roses for my wife.
I am not much into decorative plants and not a huge fan of roses (please don't shoot me, I know they are very popular with many). But these seem to be growing well each year without help. But the flowers last so little, perhaps because I do not take care of them.

 

Aldo, my Roses get pruned once a year , are fed twice a year and flower continuously from April/May all the way through to January so I think if yours last so little in time there's probably something wrong with their planting not care.

 

@Aldo I like your bins. Much bigger than our green (food waste) bins that have wheels. I have several of them because they are also great for storing sand, and lawn feed and well, all sorts of items and eliminating the need for a shed. At least for me. Ours are 13liter size and you can fit a heck of a lot of seasonal stuff in them and they stay dry inside and pest free. Well, except for the one year I thought I was clever and put bird seed in one and the bin got chewed into

 

Managed to get into the GH. WOWEE! I sow they seed one day and next day they are up.

Had t put the upper stagging up. I am seriously considering buying another GH. I have lost so many shrubs, '?due to cat pee' also foxy sadly is becoming a bit of pain. He's doing a thorough job of diggin the garden over. Never mind.

 

No exact location as naming the island would be equivalent to naming the name and address of YOUR house. Which I am sure you would never do

NB to me an island has no access except by boat; as far as I know, faraway Achill has a road bridge. "Islands" with bridges are no longer really islands and I would not go near them!

Today? Jobs? Nothing in the garden. Yesterday was off the scale workwise so today I am reclining. Also my brief outing showed exuberant pollen counts. All out there is as and where it should be and has no need of me!

Now the fridge is a different matter altogether
