Some sort of insect on a vine

Thanks, to be honest I was hoping that leaf problem and the bud drop was the same, as it happened on the same plant.
I'm keeping a very close eye on them at the moment.

 

Morning , I've been following some links I was sent and now is the time to spray with a liquid sulphur solution, on a cloudy day, if you can get hold of some. Both sides of the leaf.

 

Sulphur, is that for the fungus?

 

Yes the sulphur is for the fungus. The problem with Bordeaux mixture is the copper, which gets into the soil and can affect worms and may build up. The copper can also get into rivers and streams where it very toxic to many aquatic organisms. According the RHS Bordeaux mix was withdrawn in 2015. You can still buy the ingredients though and mix your own.

 

Can I just check I’ve understood this properly. Mine is mildiou, Pete’s is Gall Blister Mite. Is that right?

 

Sorry Howard, I didn't mean to hi jack your thread.
But personally, looking at your pictures, I'd say you have both, leaves look blistered and no fruit.

 

Not according to my vigneron friend! The only available prevention for the mites is sulphur whereas BM is used to treat/prevent fungal diseases.

 

But, did the mites cause the flower buds to dry up and fall off without flowering.
That was the biggest problem I had last year with them.
It was strange as the buds only fell off slowly, it wasn't an overnight thing like frost, and it only happened on one plant and not all the bunches on that plant.

 

You can see a picture of the underside of the affected leaves today, and the top side. It seems to be developing a purple colour earlier in the year than normal.

This seems pretty clearly the mite, according to the RHS

Hi Pete no but ... on ebay a guy sells all the ingrediants in seperate bags to make it yourself and you just mix then apply ... but they dont sell in garden centres no more been taken off the market who knows waht will happen now we have left europe

 

What did you actually buy? Can you give me a link?

 

Not cheap I'm afraid but it has other uses and goes a long way.
Sulphur Rose- Roses often develop yellow leaves and black blotches i.e Blackspot & Mildew, which makes the plants unsightly. Use Sulphur rose, a brilliant plant tonic to encourage healthy blemish-free growth.

 

I think, maybe wrong maybe right, I'd not bother, I think you can still get Copper sprays.

 

Sulphur is actually such a valuable chemical. In the garden it has so many applications as a fungicide and an anti fungicide.
Before storing bulbs, corm and tubers away for the winter, a dusting of flowers of sulphur will help to prevent various forms of fungi. Especially if part of the rootstock has been cut/divided.

In the field of medicine it has proved very useful. Acting as a fungicide, it can be usued in many area of human treatment, where fungal micrological bacteriea is present. Urinart tract infections (UTI) is a common use. In past times in cases of TB it could be usded along with streptomycene as the lungs were often attacked by fungal spores.

In hot weather, a sulphur block placed in the pets drinking water bowl, helps keeping the water fresh and clear of bacteria.
