I don't mind people taking their own personal risks, but I do want people to allow me to be safe. Our very popular walk has narrow lanes of maybe just 2m wide. Honestly, you can not walk side by side, holding hands or having kids running around on this kind of a lane, you must walk in a line when someone is coming towards you.

I DON'T WANT TO BRUSH SHOULDERS WITH YOU. Sorry about the shouting, but that's what it is. Please give me a possibility of not being too close to you. Please walk in line instead of side by side when people are passing you.

    Grrrrr. :paladin:

Thanks, I feel much better now :)

I well understand what Pete is saying, and much of which is echoed by many of us. Seeing the news today. Certainly the announcement of an MP breaking the ground rules, by upping stick and travelling miles away to isolate. Total utter selfishness, has he no confidence in his local medics? Now his coworkers are searching for words to cover-up for him. I bet he never got a fixed penalty ticket.

I think for many of us, the hardest part is loneliness. To each and every one. Please try and remain positive.

He's not an MP, Mike, but Boris's Top Advisor/Consultant....but that is no excuse for"Bending the rules":nonofinger: But, having said that, those who are now demanding his resignation are not doing so because they are outraged but because it would be a political coup to force the Prime Minister to lose such a major figure. And that's the problem the Opposition are now turning this awful Covid 19 situation into a political scenario with Kier Starmer trying to bring the Labour Party back into view while trying to establish himself even though he was on the Front Bench supporting Corbyn.......you remember him. Mr Cummings will never be a attractive figure to the Opposition, the Media, and we don't know enough about him ourselves. But he is, in reality, the No.1 target that the Opposition, the Media would just love to force to resign for purely political reasons, and have tried, unsuccessfully, in the past, and he is a Fool for giving them the opportunity to attack him but I have a feeling that he is a man that goes around giving his Enemies, and probably the World, the two fingers.:dunno::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

Thank you FC...I know I have said about my loss ,probably too much now, but my hubs is in the age bracket of needing to keep away from others and my sister and and younger brother have health issues that require them to shield too, so it's like rubbing salt into an open wound seeing people blatantly disregarding the guidelines when we have all abided by them and paid such a high price for doing so.

Yes the cover up comments made in defence of that MP were disgraceful ...what are they playing at. Just like the adults in the group using our lane for their socialising venue...surely the way forward is to lead by good example.

The trouble is that people are interpreting the guidelines to suit their own needs and not looking at the bigger picture and considering the consequences of what their irresponsible actions may inflict upon their wider community.

I am aware of the loneliness that is endured by many, I am the only member of my family who is very fortunate to be living with someone else. I make sure we keep in daily contact with each other. Their shielding was broken on the day our Dad died and we all came together to say our farewells. We will all meet up the attend his funeral in a couple of weeks time too.....but these are the ONLY times we have breached the guidelines ......and we are all so very much in need of hugging each other :grphg:

I am lucky and unlucky at the same time. I'm snowed under with work which keeps me distracted/busy so not lonely, so that is lucky. But I am detesting the work partly because it is hard work and drudgery and low paying due to me seriously underquoting as it is not my normal business and I didn't want to take advantage of the circumstances. Works out to about 50p an hour for labour and that's not counting the cost of electric, or some supplies. Then having to be inside on sunny days totally negates the good luck.

I have spoken to some of the nice neighbours on occasions such as when watering out front and it is safe because they are at least 20 feet away. And I quarantined tne bottle of excellent Merlot one left on my porch as a thank you for something or other.

Hmmm, guess I can throw a pity party. Anyone for a glass of red?

Brief encounters but definitely breaks up the feeling of being a sole survivor of Armageddon.

The numbers for my province have risen but it is because they are testing everyone in the "hot spots". Nursing home support workers and residents. Hospital staff and patients, asymptomatic or not. Bound to make the number of confirmed cases rise. There has been criticism of tne lowered number of tests however I think it is because it takes more time to acces and swab these people than the general public who can visit drive through. And all of the proactive steps are down to our provincial premier. Out prime minister is still pretending he doesn't know where covid originated, telling us in the beginning that masks would do more harm than good, and he did not and will not take responsibility for not shutting down the borders soon enough and exacerbating the situation vy donating our medical supplies to China instead of keeping some here for Canadians.

I'm hoping to complete this work by the end of the week and I shall feel free no matter what the covid restrictions are!

But, most importantly, Upsydaisy, you didn't breach the "guidelines" for your Family and any Family, or the love of your Dad, (my condolences). or each other, and that is what Family means and is about.:love30:

Maybe @ARMANDII ....but do you know what we all said?? We felt guilty making the 5 minute drive over to our Dads....even though we felt doing so was justified.

Having read a bit more about it, all is not as it first seems with the Dominic Cummings situation - it appears that he believes/believed that he was within the law when he went on his first visit to have his child cared for whilst he and his wife were ill - they were both in a separate property to his parents, albeit owned by them and close/adjacent to them. Not sure if he was or wasn't within the rules there. His own father contacted Durham Police at the time for advice, and on the insistence of his father the police called back the following day to advise and follow up and they were happy that no further action was needed

The second alleged infringement has been reported in the press based solely on the say-so of a Mr Lees (from what I am reading so far), with the inference being that he witnessed the second visit; the slight concern there is that Mr Lees does not live anywhere near Dominic Cumming's parents, but some 25 miles away - so was he too in breach of lockdown rules?

Finally, nobody seems to be getting in such a lather about the complete and utter lack of 'social distancing' on Westminster Bridge on a Thursday night, or indeed even with the reporters (hacks) climbing over each other outside Cumming's home today. As @ARMANDII rightly points out, it is a politically motivated attempt at a coup and sadly smear campaigns are all that the Leftwaffe have up their sleeves nowadays.

No guilt necessary - even during the heart of lockdown, you were perfectly entitled to give care to a vulnerable member of your family.

Lori. Your mention of 50p an hour. Years ago I used to do a bit of shoe repairing for friends, along with some car repairs etc. I repaired a pair of shoes for a guy. He was well off and had his own print works. Examining the soles, I jokingly waggled my fingers through the holes in the soles. He couldn't believe the job I finally did. He asked how much, and duly held out a pound note. Then stood there hand out waiting for his change.

Another friend who was an accountant, and I always felt was taking the the proverbial once said. I hope Mike, being a good Christian. That you declare your extra earnings to the tax man.

So I sat down and worked some figures out. I was working for a shilling (5p) an hour. I still have half a bend of leather in my shed now.

I was also taken by your. Brief encounters but definitely breaks up the feeling of being a sole survivor of Armageddon.

No argument there, Upsydaisy, but those idiots holding garden parties even within the last week certainly didn't feel guilty about exposing other people to the Virus. A lot of people have now travelled by car, basically within the present revised rules, to the beaches etc, kept their social distancing and maybe the Resorts where they headed didn't like it but they did behave, generally, responsibly. I'm pretty sure that a lot of the Public have flouted the rules from the start making their own excuses for doing so.
I just get sickened by the so-called Leading figures standing up and claiming outrage in pretence, as I said earlier, for moral or ethical reasons but in actual fact for political reasons and in order to claim credit for forcing a Top Adviser of the Government to resign. Cummings is supposed to be an intelligent man but, obviously, but like all humans can be incredibly stupid at times. I'm not condoning the man but we seen during the Brexit saga Politicians and Journalists trying to make a name for them by trying to claw members of the Government down for political reasons while professing to be flying the Flag of Righteousness.
Now that the Infection and horrible death rate has lowered easing the crisis some Politicians and Journalists are now having to keep the spotlight on themselves, as we have seen, by pursuing agendas to do just that. The number of times during the last few weeks that Journalists have asked such inane and stupid questions in interviews etc that has made them appear the fool and not the person being interviewed.
The number of honest, truly morally motivated Politicians and Journalist out there are few and you can see through those claiming to be acting on moral and ethical grounds while believing the Man/Woman on the Street is thick enough to believe them........and they really do turn my stomach.:dunno::wallbanging:

I most certainly don't like Cummings but understand, partly, him taking his child to be looked after by relatives. Unfortunately that does appear to me to be totally against the rules that he is said to have devised - "If you have, or suspect you have, Covid then do not go out and you must self-isolate" for either 7 or 14 days depending on whether you have it or suspect you have it.

As the parents of a young child I understand the immediate reaction of wishing to remove that child from the risk of the parents not being fit enough to look after him. Unfortunately, as a/the rule maker and an intelligent man he should have been able to think up better ways of solving the problem. He was, supposedly, taking the child to be looked after by his sister/cousin  - or both. They do not have Covid so could easily have driven down to collect the child. :dunno:

His defence of his actions would have been much better received if he would have apologised and had said he was so worried that he thought he was doing the best thing.

There's no doubt that the attacks on him are politically motivated but he has never made himself the most popular of people (most unpleasant and arrogant a lot of the time) and he moves in a political world. The two best ways to put yourself in the firing line!
