TOMATO GROWING THREAD 2020

Harvested first tomato 14th May (sungold). Previous years first tomato harvested 19th may 21st may and so on when sown January, this year I was on holiday until 15th Feb so toms sown 16th Feb and first tom harvested earlier just goes to show my new LED lights must have had a good effect.

Is it me or am I so fr behind that mine are still at the waiting to pot on stage.
I have been away for so long, that even my plants have been to sleep longer than I have been gardening.
Little tomee-a-toes are in life, but only just. A very late growth will be in my house for they know not if it is a gardener or a novice in charge of their life at present.
Little cherry toms are what I am trying to grow if at all possible.

 

Planted my first row of toms 6 plants in my poly tunnel , Rosada F1 still have a 2 packets of Thompson & Morgan seeds left dated 2015 and getting 100% germination.

 

My tomatoes sown and germinated in a cold greenhouse have been slow to say the least but this recent warm weather has made them (and the cucumbers) a lot happier, I think they're well on their way now. I can almost taste cheese and tomato toasties!

 

Oh Cheese and home grown Tomatoes, can't wait.

 

I was a bit early planting out my tomato plants in unheated polytunnel at beginning of May. Had 1 Sungold, 1 Marmande, and 2 x Shirley varieties. The frost came and damaged the Shirleys quite badly but the Sungold and especially Marmande survived it well.
Still have the Shirleys in place but not sure if they are going to recover. No real growth has happened with them since!
Probably better to replace them.

 

A few years ago I germinated seeds from an old 2005 (foil) packet of Gardeners Delight.

Germination will slowly decrease and the amount of 'blind' seedlings (with just the seed leaves and no growing point) will increase.

 

Mine were sown inside and then transferred to a coldframe in March (I think). They are still quite small plants and I doubt they are going to be very productive this year :-(

 

yes, am in the UK. I've ordered my greenhouse but it's been delayed and i started them anyway in the coldframe. I thought I may be a bit 'previou' but thought I'd chance it. Hopefully they will pull through but we shall see :-)

 

Hi all!

I'm growing tomatoes for the first time this year. I've got 4 plants in pots in the conservie, 2 each of sweet million and gardener's delight, and I'll plant out the strongest of each into haloes in one of my raised beds.

They've had a bit of a feed already as I had some left over from doing the courgettes.

They're looking pretty tall, lots of lovely leaves but no flowers yet. One variety smells tomato-y which is very satisfying!
