What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2020

We finally have a completion date for our house So today's job has been wandering round the garden making a list of what needs potting up to take with us and whispering gentle encouragement to the poor perennials that are going to be lifted and divided at completely the wrong time (sorry hostas...) I'm just hoping that the movers don't flinch too much at the potted fig tree and climbing rose that need shifting - they're both a lot bushier than they were originally going to be for this part of the process

The wind has finally gone. I've been out and had a look around. Staked a few Verbena and had to snip off a lot of wind burn from a few plants. Repotted an Azalea into a bigger pot and have given myself a long list of plants that have to be moved after summer I don't know what I was thinking last year when I put them where they are. Inexperience I suppose anyway apart from losing most of the seedlings it's not been too bad.

 

Our current flat is a rental, and the garden was an overgrown bramble jungle when we moved in (Small Garden Project), so everything planted is stuff I've added. Our landlady has only seen it a couple of times in the three years we've been here, so as long as I don't leave any huge gaps she won't know what is and isn't there. The only plant I'm in two minds about is my huge diosma, partly because I'm not sure it will cope with being moved and partly because it will leave a pretty big hole I tried taking cuttings from it for the last two years but none of them took

 

That great new @2nd_bassoon you'll have to take a picture of the new garden and plans cause where all nosy sods especially me.

Sorry about your toms @Aldo that gentle breeze has cause havoc , leaves bins rubbish everywhere. I've been fortunate its not do to much damage to my own garden

 

Well I've been galavanting all over the localish GC this weekend looking for some trailing begonias which seem to of disappeared off the face of the earth I've done nearly 100 mile looking for them, I've been to 8-9 garden centres looking and haven't found any . Garden centres are thankfully a lot quieter this weekend last week I didn't even bother going in with the amount of people queuing .

On my travels looking for begonias 2 geums borsii managed to find there way back home with me . Then I found a Meconopsis Lingfolm and rescued a Hellebore Harvington Double pink and a carex evergold from the sick bay for £3 .

after getting back home today around 1 ish its been a productive afternoon , made up 3 very large baskets another mid size basket and 3 pots . Potted on the hellebore and divided the carex into 4-5 plants . Planted out the meconopsis and give everything a water / feed .

Back in for a shower cause i finished for the day , thought I would have a quick wonder in the garden next minute digging up a geum tai mai which has refused to flower last year and this year , I have read geum cocktail series need dividing often to keep them flowering. I were quite surprised by the huge amount of old dead root matter. So now I have 5 young geum Mai Tai potted up and I planted the Geum Borsii in its place cause it flowers much longer. Mucky hands again

 

@Perki Well, it was a bit my fault admittedly.
That planter is pretty tall. I always take the chance because a tomato looks good over there. But if I put a poor tomato 7 feet high up at least I should support it properly. Serves me well I guess.
Fortunately I do have other three of that variety still in pots, so I can replace it. This time with a few extra canes for good measure

 

Pretty much the same as the other days need to prepare some space under the trees for a couple of shad lovers. The jasmine has now gone.

 

Just picked all the black spot leaves from my Roses ,I’m sure they feel better ,they certainly look better.............and let’s face it ,that’s what we have them for. Looking good .

 

Bit of tidying up as the shed is now totally demolished

Mostly keeping an eye on my courgettes, which are super thirsty at the moment, and my tomatoes, which are having some time outside in a sheltered spot, while I survey the new view and think about greenhouse plans.

 

Planted up the cucumbers into their final pots. Erected the 2 bean frames ready for planting up.Moved all the plants out of the greenhouse so I could start a tidy up before I pot on the tomatoes. Now having a breather because the greenhouse is bloody HOT!

 

I certainly will do @Perki - it's a huge (comparatively, for me!) space that is pretty much a blank canvas at the moment, just wonky grass, a couple of trees and a few empty rotting raised veg beds. So it's going to be a project

Tied in the sweet peas - which are flowering?! Never know them do that so early! - and pinched out the dahlias, and now waiting for the sun to dip over the wall before I get the watering can out again; between the sun and the wind the watering feels a bit like the painting of the forth bridge at the moment
