Ended up planting a couple of ornamental Rubus, a geranium and transplanted a Japanese anemone to conditions less conducive to it's attempts at world domination; just got to keep on top of all the shoots from it's former position.

Pergola completed today, added some hook eyes for half a dozen hanging baskets. Re energised some old JIno03 mpc mix with more of the same and filled some largish tubs and added some aquilegia, red hot poker's, rudbeckia, giant scabious and echinacea purpurea probably over filled but we'll see how it goes.

@2nd_bassoon - I'd try taking cuttings of the diosma again - I have managed to bring a couple to my new place and it's surprising how fast they grow.

I went for another wade in the pond this afternoon to plant some Schizostylus in an old plastic permanently damp crate on one of banks of the pond and I think they will do well there as they survived the Winter in an old bucket full of water, so they seem hardy enough. While in the pond I scooped out some more bottom mud and turned the water to a thick muddy brown which will clear in a couple of days, and then I planted a couple of Clematis into the Bog Garden.
The Alliums in the borders are looking good at the moment..

I've also got 3 clumps of this bright red Perennial Poppy, (no name)

but I'd rather have 3 clumps of differently coloured Poppies, so 2 clumps will have to go. The Bearded Iris are looking amazing although I think I might have to replace 9 now as one that has just flowered is a beautiful dark royal blue and looks very similar to one that is already in flower. It takes a couple of days for the flower to settle and become it's final colour and texture but it's still a beautiful Iris.
The Venus Fly Traps are doing great business in the Green House and I can almost hear them burping after the feast of flies they are trapping.

How did you take them @CarolineL ? I tried both in compost and water but neither showed any inclination to root :th scifD36:

I haven't done much today it's been beautifully sunny. Split some ivy and repotted in window boxes. (Trying to create some trailing plants to cover a small grubby wall) Had to bin some Dahlia tubers that were rotting. :cry3: Refilled the bucket pond and got chatting with the daughter of the elderly lady from next house to us. Not attached but joining gardens.

When we moved in last year I greatly admired the plants that were slightly hanging over our high fence. All year there has been colour and I could tell they had been planted with love. A big pear tree and many more. Sadly she has gone into a care home with dementia. Her daughter said her mum has lived there 60 years and was a very keen gardener. She's done a stunning job and was still tending to it up to 5 years ago. She's now 97.......I can only hope the next people look after it :fingers crossed:

Last night I re-arranged most of the containers on the patio. The problem area that didn't look right now looks much better and with some solar lights will be lovely and inviting.

I found a small olive tree that I'd forgotten I had - oops! - and have put it in the sunshine to see if it feels like growing a bit.

Planted out half the tomatoes, hopefully they'll do okay and I won't need my backups.

Potted on my mint plant and put it outside.

Started thinking about what I might grow next year and making a tentative plan for the beds. Reading about plants that like full shade for the "secret garden" behind the shed and about what to do with the babies my bay tree is growing.

I decided to cover myself in fence stain. I got some on the fence as well!

I got off to a good start, lettuces, sweetcorn and runner beans planted out and watered in. Now stuck in front of the computers until this afternoon.

Got the sunflowers in their big pot this morning. It's looking like a hot day so I'll likely be hiding indoors and knitting / reading / cleaning / parenting for the most part.

Toms are looking happier after their first night in the beds. Courgettes are continuing to look happy too.

Next up to go out will be the peppers, not sure they're big enough though and they haven't yet been hardened off.

Celery and some annual herbs are also waiting in the wings to go out.

The olive tree I moved (from shade to sun) on the patio is looking a totally different colour! Much greener and happier.

Just completed a marathon watering session - left hose pipe out for a good car wash tomorrow.

I don't know if everyone's seen my 'new' arch - the one you walk through to get to the pond - well here it is:

                          DSC_0077.JPG

Very disappointed with the white Surfinia that survived last Winter. Never mind large white trumpet flowers - this is what it looks like - you can hardly see the flowers they are so small. This one is heading for the compost heap:

Made a start on trimming the Box hedging, normally wait for Derby Day but seen as I got carried away and have plenty to go at thought I'd better make a start...flung aload of Pelleted chicken manure on the borders and gave them a good watering in..don't half stink though...
