Oh, OK Mr. Orange-tip! Not sure what was up with him but he seems to have recovered now, flying about all over my garden! :noidea::)

Wish this wind would die down, the only place to see settled butterflies is a sheltered path running alongside a spinney on the edge of the village, but if pausing at a sunny spot with a few dandelions, loads of passing Green-veined Whites settle

The orange tips are on the upper side of the males' wings, male and female wings are the same underneath.

Been loads of Speckled Woods about recently, but all harshly backlit, covered with shadows, or burnt out with direct sunlight.

Only one today, but much better conditions

After several days of cold, wet, windy weather, I thought there might be some butterflies about this afternoon

Male Orange Tip. I only got this shot from distance, then 2 randy Green-veined Whites buzzed it and put it up.

Then another wanted to join in and make it a threesome

I kept my distance too as two Orange Tips were courting.

Small Heath, my first sighting of 2020.

We were out walking in some young woodland with wide grassy rides and open areas, when Mrs Scrungee said "there's a moth", which I instantly saw was a butterfly, one not seen this year, and spent 10 mins chasing it.

Luckily I hadn't bothered changing from my birding long telephoto lens used on early morning walks, to a shorter range tele zoom I use for butterflies after it warms up enough for them, as it rapidly departed every time I got less than 6'/1.8m from it.
