@Kevin Cowans sorry to point this out, but it is the elderly (we who loved making mud pies and playing with worms) who are dropping dead in the care homes. Not the children. But I think you're onto something. Maybe being confined with others, the nasties get passed back and forth until it gets everyone it can ;)

      This is correct.

My Mum tells me of the time the Doctor came out to see her neighbours daughter - who wasn't feeling well. The Doctor pointed over to a group of kids larking around in the dirt, throwing soil at one another etc. - as you do when you are that age. The Doctor said something to the effect that your daughter should be out there - she needs to build up an immunity.

Another reason to get stuck into the garden.

Well, yes elderly are always the more vulnerable due to other health issues.
This virus seems to be affecting lots of groups people differently.
And I agree children don't seem to be affected badly in the main.

Not sure how much research is going on to find out why, it could hold the key perhaps?

I agree there is too much disinfecting and that people have no immunity. I am of the age of playing in mud, not bathing properly, etc, but I never have colds and had the flu twice in my life. My dearly beloved Sister was a clean freak and had flu shots every year ... and got ill every year.

The flu affects the young and old alike. The flu also usually affects those in cold climates at specific times of the year. This virus runs a different pattern ... hot and cold countries at the same time ... and very quickly to great numbers which I don't believe the flu does.

Also, if the UK has 29,000 people who die of the flu every year, ie, one assumes during flu season in the winter, plus folk dying from other sources, how come the surgeries, hospitals and undertakers have not been stressed out in these short periods of time?

Just some thoughts that have been crossing my mind.

Well when they was talking about the tracing and testing thing tonight I thought I heard them say, if you test positive they will trace all the people you have been in contact with for 15 minutes?

            Hello @CanadianLori

            Thanks for the reply.

            May I just clarify something.

At no time did I mean to infer that I was dismissing the deaths, just the difference in the germ culture, no pun intended, between now and when I was a kid.

Apologies if I caused any offence, none was meant.

            Thanks

            Kevin

Heavens no. Zero offence here! I enjoy reading different viewpoints :) And I'm one of those mud pie making kids who was kicked out of the house in the morning during summer holidays, brown sugar sandwich in a wax paper wrap for lunch and not expected back until suppertime. Thirsty? Drink out of the garden hose! The only time I got under the weather was a yearly battle with poison ivy. Took me until I was 60 to recognize the darned stuff.

I had four siblings and in our one small bathroom, there was one plastic cup that we used to drink water or rinse after brushing. Big eewwww factor now :yikes: And until I was about 11, having to shower twice a week, to me, was nasty. Laying in the tub taking mouthfuls of water and squirting it out "fountain" style was fun though but a bath used more water than a quick shower so it was a luxury. Oh my!

I agree we're too sanitized. In some cases.

I do wish that individuals who take up employment in public office, would avail themselves of a course in public speaking.

For instance. I sat and watched the PM battling through the select committees questions. YES. It is a regular practice for speakers to so often repeat themselves when delivering, so asto quickly reiterate a point. However. I felt for the PM today. Firstly, I think he is still very much under the weather. I wish him well. His defensive answeres to the numerous questions, really did come over as a load of garbage. I wonder if some individual actually checked all the, ums and are, the, errs etc. Yes he as the individual maintaned that Churchillian, we wil fight them on the beaches etc etc. Alas he got tied up in his own words.

The larger part of the Select Committees questioning was about the Chief Advisor. I have to say. As all of this controversy relates to Cummings really throwing all to the wind and doing it his way. The thought or impression that there was no LOCAL child care etc.. I have rubbed shoulders with some of the high and mighty. I have seen and heard of what goes on. Please forgive me for this terminology but. Often in emergencies like this. The hue and cry goes out. Blah, blah big name is in a fix and needs help. Due to that individuals status, and it is evident that Cummings, is so recognized. Forgive me please but. Help, assistance magically comes forth like flies swarming to some excramental dropping.

We are talking about the Chief Advisor. The holliest of hollies. This man tells the PM what to do.!!!

I seriously, in my humble way. Suggest to the PM. Think again. You gained your ambition to become PM. Much of the country voted Tory. How long before the country says. Time for a change.

The Select Commissions question at time were repetative. IMHO. Yvette Cooper made the most direct and effective point. Simply saying. PM. Will you say what you mean.

Oh great, that means if somebody who gets infected has visited shops, all the dozens of other people who've passed close by in the aisles will be ignored, and only those in the checkout queues and those will get quarantined/tested.

                  I'm not confident in that.

And it makes a nonsense of keeping your distance from people you briefly encounter.

Would a 14 minute car journey with others not count?

Just listening to it again this morning, I don't think I got it quite right.
They have have explained it again.
And I still don't understand it.

On the point about dirt and attitudes, though not really relevant to the current virus, not so long ago (only about 40 years :heehee:) a friend of ours cycled out from town to visit us. She had her six month old baby in the basket on the handle bars and then put her on the lawn so she could crawl around whilst we had tea and cakes (in the days before we were worrying about diabetes and being overweight :rolleyespink:). I pointed out to our friend that the baby had pulled a worm from the lawn and was about to pop it in her mouth. The friend didn't bat an eyelid and said "If she doesn't like it she will spit it out" and ignored it!

I'm still not sure how they intend to do the contact tracing? They seem to have stopped the idea of the contact App and are relying on the newly trained (or not trained) thousands of contact tracers. Admittedly, doing some tracing may be better than not doing it but it seems to be very much up in the air (no pun intended) at the moment although they're supposed to be starting work today.

At least it will bring the unemployment figures down a bit. :dunno:

I was in Toastmasters for two years ...these utterings were forbidden. I think it should be mandatory that News Reporters and probably Politicians should attend such.
