2020 Butterfly and Moth Images

Couldn't get anywhere near these without them flying off.

Saw several Skippers for the first time this year this afternoon that were skipping around and not settling for photos.

Mrs Srungee saw a Cinnabar Moth last Saturday.

 

First Meadow Brown of 2020 today



Small Heaths



Thought I was going to get a pic of a mating pair, but they abandoned their courting and socially distanced

 

Saw another one a couple of days ago, but before I could get my camera out my pack, get the lens cap off, turn it on, and was just homing in when it flew off.

But today I had Mrs Scrungee scouting for me, and she spotted this Large Skipper and guided me into it.

 

This morning I saw my first Small Copper and Ringlet that were too elusive to photograph, also saw my first Red Admirals, six in 5 minutes.




And got a good shot of a Large Skipper (it's uncropped)

 

Went back this afternoon and walked up and down that wildflower strip until I got a photo of a Small Copper.



Also got another Large Skipper close up (well, not exactly close, 1.4m away with a long telephoto lens)




Also saw masses of Small Heaths, loads of Meadow Browns, 6 Red Admirals (who all turned up together) and 3 Common Blues.

Silver Studded Blues were battling against the strong winds this morning at Arne and so was I trying to get a pic.

 

Saw my first Humming bird moth yesterday in the garden

Not been suitable weather for a few days, and even this morning, breezy with overcast skies, Mrs Scrungee wondered why I bothered taking a camera on our dog walk, but on a wildflower strip beside the footpath I saw my first Marbled White of 2020 (been expecting them with the Knapweed coming into bloom), about half a dozen Small Heaths, 14 Large Skippers and over 100 Meadow Browns.
