    Hi,

Does anyone know of a way to print onto the White Plastic plant labels, strip or T types with a typical PC printer, so we have a neater and longer lasting one ?

Can only think of printing out on normal paper then running it though a laminator and glueing them onto a plastic label or stick.

I'd try some sticky labels. You can get lots of different types now - I think freezer labels would probably be robust enough for garden use, they've got a good temperature range and will survive being wet or frozen.

I've bought from Labelplanet before and been very happy with them. They have templates you can download so you don't have to worry about making your own.

I use Dymo S0915390 Label Manager PnP Plug and Play Label Maker to print on plastic sticky labels.

        Hi,

See you can get the hand held 160 version for about £25.

Looking on Dymos site they say the labels are 'water resistant '

If used on the white push in plant labels, do you find they will withstand spillage from the watering can or when in a humid area, even on labels used outdoors ?

          Hi Mike,

Thanks for the mention, seems the BrotherTZe tapes shout about how they are water and chemical resistant etc / for indoor and outdoor use.

Your model no longer current, but did find this one which only has one font, but does a lot of electrical symbols which would also be very handy for me as well as the plant labels, plus the price makes it a snip.

There is a Gardening version at around £35 for those wanting its features.

Only found this by googling. It's a laser printer and only available in the USA but worth a read as it seems possible to do:

I have used the dymo printer to label my solar wires and they have withstood the elements for more than 5 years. No fade.

Never thought of making plant labels...

I used my label maker to stick labels to a t-marker a couple of days ago. Usually I just write on it with a Sharpie but for some reason it was smudging. It's had a lot of fairly heavy rain but is holding up perfectly so far.

Of course! It's a Brother PT 80, looks like this:

I've had it for absolutely ages and have no idea if it's still made or not. It's a good machine but now that it's getting on it runs quite slowly as if the batteries are running out even when I've just put fresh ones in. I am looking to upgrade it at some point to one that also prints on ribbon. The one I have in mind is the Brother PT H200:

I've got a Dymo printer. The good news is that the plastic labels are very waterproof. The bad news is the glue doesn't last well, even under normal dry conditions. You'd need to use Bostick or similar to make sure the labels stay on.

Thanks all for the helpful info. :blue thumb:

Seems the Brother printers and TZe Tapes get the best comments so have ordered the yellow E110 model shown above as its on half price offer at Toolstation for just £23 !

It has those additional electrical symbols etc which will be more helpful to me, though for a very keen gardener the Green H105 version would look a good choice.
