What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2020

Still moving plants around the garden , we've also been busy extending a couple of borders over the last few days, and creating more curves while we're at!! Most will not be planted up until later in the year but a few spare plants have been put in to minimise the bare soil ' look'.
Yes, I am a tad damp as we have had continuous rain here too!

The above pic is still definitely 'work in progress ' as the lumps of clay need to be worked on more and be added to to make it workable.
It still looks bone dry in the pics....hard to believe we have had heavy downpours all morning!!

 

Nothing much today! I’ll have to be more careful what I wish for!

I received my plug plants today and luckily I had some plastic cups indoors as it wasn’t a good idea going out into the garden to get my small pots. See photo!

I had a devil of a time identifying them!

I’ve given them a little squirt of water and as you can see they are on my kitchen windowsill. Will they be ok until hopefully tomorrow if it stops raining for repotting?

 

Lots of rain, which the plants are enjoying.
I picked numerous snails and slugs and catapulted them into the great outdoors..
One managed to eat a pumpkin flower which I had pollinated manually yesterday, I hope it got fertilized sufficiently.

 

@Hobbynut They should be fine for a day or two..
At least, some plugs I received and could not plant right away managed well in the past, with a bit of water.

 

Rain rain and more rain where that sun gone may go into the GH and pot some seedling on and sow some.

Your back garden very small @Hobbynut its like a little oasis, as aldo mentioned your plug plants should be fine for the short term , what plants have you bought ?

I were working at one of my clients gardens the other day it a farm so livestock around and some young cats knocking about . Fortunately for one of the cats I noticed it climb up from under the van into the van engine compartment, it were sat on the radiator would of been ugly if I didn't see it.

@Hobbynut your plug plants look great and as @Aldo and @Perki said they'll be fine.
Nothing been done today it's still raining.

 

You'll need to grow the Delephinium - Lupin - Rudbeckia into quite large pots 3L ideal but you may get away with 2Litre , small plants of these types don't last long when the slugs / snails find them. Once the Rudbeckia has bulked up they are fine the the garden , slugs don't really touch my large delphiniums either but try and nibble the shoots as they emerge. The lupin on the other had get servery damaged over the summer .

 

Sowed some seeds Wallflowers - foxgloves and some other bits and bobs . Planted up a couple more summer pots

Hi @Perki , how are you?
This year ( I'm living life dangerously and taking risks...or my success with my Dahlias has gone to my head!) I have just cut back my Wallflowers ,they are perennial but normally I get rid of them each year and also took cuttings a month back. The cut backed plants have bushed up nicely with fresh growth and the cuttings are looking good. Probably jinxed things now!!

 

I am fine thanks . You ? I have a dahlia in the garden which I am not so keen on it insists on coming back every year. I trimmed back some wallflowers I am keeping for next spring they should be fine

 

Yes not bad thanks.
Decided to take more 'risks' this year with plants/ bulbs/ tubers that are 'said' to require overwintering. I have a greenhouse still full of unidentifiable ( to me) bulbs that I have dug up to store. So now most will have to toughen up because they will be left in the ground to fend for themselves.

 

Just a quick check on the edibles today as it's wet and rainy again.

Sunflowers have shot up and one of my raspberries is red!

 

That's going to keep you busy for a bit @ARMANDII.

I know you like to keep them safe but I can't help thinking they're worse than children to keep tabs on.
