Echinopsis eyriesii

Flowering Brazilian cactus, Echinopsis eyriesii. The flower lasts just one day :(

 

Is that Burros tail behind?

I am always amazed at the flowers on many cacti. At one time. I set my collection out like a natural scene. I remember one night, looking out of the window toward the GH. I saw this blotch of white, just caught by the moonlight. Camera in hand, I dashed downto the GH. Using just a torch. I saw one of my plants had shot up this long stem that ws surmounted by the most gorgeouse white flower. Next morning, the flower was dead and the stem collapsed. So sad.

 

I agree @Mike Allen I nearly missed this one because I hadn't been down to the polytunnel due to the rain. I thought it would have withered by this morning but it's still there ...

I don't know why these letters are in italics, I must have hit some button by mistake. It's no good having clumsy fingers ! I put it down to old age

 

I find if you move Echinopsis into the shade when in flower the flowers last for 2 nights.
The plant itself I think likes more shade than a lot of other cacti.

 

I believe they grow in grassland @pete so would have some shade.
The flower is still there. I don't think I've ever had them to last two days before. Good idea to put them in a shadier spot when flowering .

I posted this last night in another thread, Queen of the night, selenicereus.

 

They're wonderful aren't they … I've never seen one of an orange colour before. My main one died so I've only got a small offshoot now.
The Selenicereus is fantastic !

 

The orange one, we'll call it orange was grown from seed a long time ago, it came from a mixed packet of Echinopsis holly gate hybrids.
All a bit neglected these days I'm afraid.

 

It doesn't look neglected to me with so many flowers

 

Its been in the same pot for ten yrs, gets water and an occasional feed.
