Assembled this base for my new potting shed. Will be sinking it partly into the ground in a gravel trench. No need for ground spikes. Fitted it together on-site as it's too heavy to move as one piece.

The cost of the timber and iron mongery was the same as a pre made one - but the pre made ones looked rather flimsy.

This one has also been custom made to fit the potting shed perfectly.

Before anyone says anything - I have a hat on - that's not the shape of my head

Don't know yet hardly done anything out there all week, general lack of enthusiasm, weather not encouraging. Probably end up weeding and dead heading; have to water greenhouse plants of course.

Not much today, as was running the sound desk at church, so that’s 4 hours of my day gone!

But when I got home, after a much-needed cuppa (wearing a mask for that long is difficult!), hubby helped me to pot on 80-odd chilli plants. He was the “go for...”, running back and forth with trays of plants, whilst I sat on the kitchen floor doing the messy job. We’d still be removing potting compost from the ceiling at Christmas, if he’d been doing it!!

The wind is so strong today. It's blasting everything in the garden. It has snapped one if my tomato plants In half :wallbanging: so apart from frantically moving everything out of the way that's been about as exciting as my day has got. :noidea:

I have had an absolutely manic two weeks (work stuff) but I've finally had some time to sort out the garden.

Tomatoes are growing well and producing fruit but something seems to be stealing said fruit. The ends of the stems are severed almost as if they've been cut or snapped. Any ideas?

Courgettes are taking over and chucking out fruit like nobody's business. Standard courgette behaviour!

Peppers are very slow and little this year. They're definitely going in the greenhouse next year, assuming I can get one sorted out by then.

The newly planted french beans have all germinated and are popping up happily. One or two of them got nudged out of position by the dog burying incident, but not too far. Might try and move them when they're a bit bigger.

Strawberries arrived and are planted out - 8 in the raised beds, 3 in a hanging basket, and the leftover one in a little terracotta pot in a hanger on the fence. They're looking happy so far.

Nothing yet from the nasturtiums, lettuce, or spinach that I planted, but it's early.

I'm making a lot of notes along the lines of "things to do differently next year" and fiddling with the plan accordingly. Things are a bit cramped in one of the beds this year so I want to avoid that next year.

Everything is overdue a feed so that's my job for tomorrow.

Ended up weeding the carrots, parsnips and onions, harvesting the garlic. Had to net the brassicas to keep pigeons off, and carrots to deter squirrels and badgers. Picked raspberries and gooseberries. Watered greenhouse plants, emptied a pot of Gladiolus geardii and repotted two thirds of the corms and plant4ed out the remaining two bulbs in the raised well drained bed, see how they go.

I've been like NigelJ this week lack of enthusiasm mainly due to the weather its been rotten all week and blowing a gale again today , first time in the GH today for 2 or 3 days tomatoes were a bit dry and other bits and bobs needed watering / feeding. I feed the lawn again today but other than that I haven't done anything in the garden this week.

Has @ARMANDII gone on holiday or lost in the garden are something he's not been on for a bit now. Same with a few other members as well :noidea:

I felt somewhat depressed all week, and did very little.

But I spent most of today busy with garden activities :)

The first one was to compare MET weather reports with BBC. The "fresh breeze", 16mph, described by BBC weather was bending trees backwards and ripping tiles off.
It was somewhat of a relief to read 40 mph instead on the MET website. At least it was not all in my head :D
I am not sure what is wrong with BBC's wind report, they are constantly under estimating wind speed, perhaps their local wind station is shot.
Fortunately it did not damage any plants.

Because of the occasional rains, and general gloominess, this week I had not watered at all, and the plants were really feeling it. So I gave them 80 litres or so, plus molasses.
I prepared an area for my last Marina di Chioggia pumpkin, just to realize that I messed up the labels and it is not a pumpkin at all, just a sunburst patti pan :D
Now I have no idea what to plant there, but anyway..

I potted the last basil plants and my wife took care of repotting rosemary and sage.
She also spent some time reading the book about dehydrating, which I received for my birthday, along with the dehydrator.
Frankly some of the recipes seem a bit pointless. What's the point dehydrating cucumbers or water melons? But anyway, I guess we will try with pumpkins, courgettes, tomatoes and a few more things.

I spent a few hours in my neighbour's garden, pruning and training on the fence our blackberry bushes. Weeks ago he mentioned giving a final round of roundup to the weeds before covering it all in gravel, so I was slightly worried about systemic weed killer getting into my plants and volunteered a trim beforehand.
In any case, growing wild blackberries can be a bit of a nuisance for the other gardens, they tend and shoot these huge branches, attempting to colonize other people's lawns.
So I guess it is just fair to remove them myself. I even managed to add some additional wiring to the fence, which would have been suicidal from my side, now that the bushes are all grown and bristling with berries and thorns.

I don't know why, but I imagined your house to be in the countryside surrounded by lots of woods, the closest neighbour a few miles away :D

I guess I have confused ideas about Canada and kind of assumed that people must either live in big cities or in wooden cottages out of some fairy tale :)

It's so annoying when that happens.
You could plant the broken stem though, with a bit of luck it will root and give you another plant.

Might even get round to planting more annuals. Sow green manure where the garlic was. Trim long grass, shred prunings and maybe cut grass.
