Two for joy

 

Two of our robin nests were vacated by the young and parents this morning. Too dark for photos but lovely to see them go.

Where do they go to?

 

Thanks @strongylodon Another one has been vacated this evening. I saw them go but couldn't tell where they went to. You know my garden and they flew into the area between the main garden and the veg plot. There's lots of trees and very big shrubs there.

 

Yesterday evening we were sitting having our dinner, with a couple of friends, at the tables under the pergola. 4ft to my right the blackbirds were feeding their young in the nest and 3ft to the left and 3ft overhead the wrens were doing the same.

The male blackbird is very used to us and even hopped on a table on his way to the nest with a beak full of worms. The female is more cautious and approaches the nest from a more hidden direction. The wrens were ignoring us completely and hopped onto the fence alongside us before climbing into the nest in the passiflora growing across and underneath the pergola roof.

All things changed when Sarafi the cat decided to plonk himself on a chair to go to sleep. The wrens went mad and stood on the fence directly above him and made a hell of a racket. He blissfully ignored them, as he does with all birds, but I woke him up, gave him a tiny bit of my chicken and he trotted off back home - four doors away. He always goes home after a light snack

This morning, at 5.30, I sat on a bench on the patio to have a cup of hot water and the male blackbird came and sat on the bench and chatted to me for a couple of minutes. Whilst we were there a couple of robins came for their morning bath in the water bowl (an old baking dish) by the patio.
