Twice complained to the management in Morrisons about selling green potatoes, and both times they said they would sort it out.
Still doing it and did so last year and the year before, dont they know anything or dont they care.

The potatoes in question are jersey royals always packed in milky white plastic sacks, why they do that is a mystery, I would have thought black plastic would be better.

Tis funny just watching a farmer bringing straw in and another farmer taking hay out on there big ex artic lorry trailers when there is only small passing places, some have big problem reversing back half a mile in which to pass one another  then to put more fuel on the fire another tractor and trailer comes up behind the one reversing :heehee: it's madness the lane is made for this to happen, 5 farmers all want to use the road at the same time :spinning:

I need some more wine yeast, just found some, £2.99, fine, then they want £5.00 delivery are these people really serious.
I'd much prefer to just go into a shop and buy it but cant think of any shops round here that sell such strange stuff,
This is where online shopping falls flat on its face as far as I'm concerned, total rip off.

We've had them going by all day long but our road is big enough for them to pass each other.

When I had a go at home brewing beer. I found Boots the chemist often had all the bits and bobs.

Due to the Cov-19 precautions etc. I have been shielding since Feb. Using the online shopping vulnerable list, via daughter Amanda. For various reasons, at time we have little choice with our shopping. Recently, well on two occassions I wanted some spuds. First bag contained Maris Piper with a sticky saying that they were not top quality. (Heavily scabbed) Never mind. Then the second bag was Maris P. When it came down to cooking, boiling them, what a disaster. In a short time on the boil, the outer edges of the spud disintergrated as a mushy mess. Seeing this one might assume that the spud is cooked. No way. What remains of the tattie is raw and as hard as a rock. So may I. If need be.....even upon ...bended knee ask all my beautiful loverlies in the kitchen. Please help this sad old git out. At present my boiled spuds are being poured down the drain.

@Mike Allen different types of spuds for different uses, i don't boil mine i use a pressure cooker but some types the skin comes away or they're dry more for mashing or roasting.

Hi Mike, love Maris Piper tatties, but they aren't good if you want boiled ones. They are considered the best for French fries, baked , mashed and as they cook up 'fluffy' they are brilliant for roasting. Jersey Royals are good for boiling.:dbgrtmb:

Last time I tried growing earlies they came out like that, mushy on the outside and hard in the middle.
Can't remember what variety they were, obviously not Maris piper as I think they are main crop.
Put me off bothering with earlies or even second earlies.

They still do, Groves garden centre at West Bay, Dorset sell homebrew stuff, but it's bit of a drive.

N.B. Just been told by my regular hombrew supplier there's a shortage of various items and yeast is one of them. One more for tbe long list of stuff in short supply.

@pete I've ordered a bundle of ec-1118 yeast sachets (use it for all my wine and cider) from a hb supplier that should arrive Thur/Fri and could post one on if you'd like one.

Very kind of you @Scrungee .
I've found the tub of yeast I bought last year, says use within 3 months.
But I put some in a bottle with some sugar and water and it's frothing up,so I've just added it to a batch of BlackBerry wine.
I've probably got enough for one more batch.
So, in the mean time I might come across some somewhere, but thanks again for the offer.
I've got baking yeast, have you ever tried that?

Not guaranteed to ferment right out, leaving a 'stuck' oversweet wine, might not produce vigorous enough fermentation to overcome wild yeasts/spoilage organisms that could leave off flavours, wont ferment at low temps like ec-1118, etc.

The EC-1118 I've just ordered is £1.25 /sachet (I normally collect it in person from the online supplier to save £2.99 deliv costs) and I add one sachet to some pasteurised blackberry/apple juice, then divide it and top up with more juice and so on, until I've enough active yeast starters to make 4 x 6 gallon batches of wine/cider, costing only 5p/gall (less if buying in bulk). Four sachets can be enough for nearly 100 galls.

Ok so you actually grow your own yeast once you get a starter going.
                                You just keep dividing it?
