My Fuchsia triphylla is now covered in buds .... but also has blotches on some leaves and some dry. It is in a large pot and watered daily in our 30c+ heat and only gets a little morning sun as it is facing West.

It is it's first year. Is it being overwatered?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

That Victoria is a very sad looking fuchsia. All of ours do well whichever way they face... I've got north, east, and west facing varieties.
It's as if the root ball hasn't ventured out into it's surroundung compost. Or something damaging the roots.
I wouldn't water mine every day, even in hot weather.. I'd tend to put my finger in the outer edge and wait till it really feels a bit dry.
If it was mine, i would remove it and throughly inspect the roots, because i think it might die left like that.
Hopefully a fuchsia expert might advise further and or better.

Can't think of anything other than scorch. That dried out bit in the middle of a leaf suggests it.
Triphylla types do take a bit more heat I think.
Just wondering if you have splashed the leaves when watering whilst it is hot?

Ps. Morning sun, could the leaves be wet still in the morning.

@Jymi riddler Welcome to GC and thank you for your input.

I believe you are in Gloustershire and I am in Algarve Portugal. We have been over 30c days and not under 20c nights all month and are currently under a high temperature warning hence daily watering. The terracotta pot is 40x45cm. It has slightly different growing conditions to the common houseplant Fuchsia, although I can grow those outdoors all year round.

@pete I thought scorch. T'other Half waters about 9-9.30am when the sun is moving to the South and off the front of the house where it sits to the North side of the door. I suspect he is spraying all over the plant ... he does not like watering or anything to do with the garden, but as you know I currently have no options. :rolleyespink: Just checked and the soil moisture indicator says between moist and wet. I have told him cut out watering for now!

Thank you both, I will monitor and report back.

Just thought I'd add a full shot of Phyllis (I name almost all my plants :heehee:). I got her early April as a 30cm tall rooting in a plastic water cup from a specialty plant seller in Oporto ....

Oh, go on, now seen a real one ... make me cry. I've not seen one for sale. I was going to get the Boliviana but went for the Triphylla instead.

Can I suggest you pot yours up into a smaller pot and get it going first before planting it into a big pot, I think it might be struggling with all that room.

              :thud: :love30: :cry3:

That is gorgeous. I must research F triphylla v boliviana v thalia. I went for the triphylla because of the soft leaves and purple underside.

Philip @glengarry23 has a beautiful Phygelius Cape Fuchsia 'Funfare Orange'. Must look at any family connection.

Will research all these tomorrow ... off to watch Lost now, love all the jungle plants.

                Cape fuchsia is no relative.
I tried F. boliviana but it seemed to only flower during short days, might work for you but not me. It also got massive.

After I got the Triphylla in a plastic water cup which had roots filling it, I replanted it into a 5in pot and it promptly filled it, hence planting it into the big terracotta pot teasing the roots slightly and that was perhaps a month ago. It only showed these signs a couple of days ago.

I have researched and you are correct.

Back in November I had bought seeds for Boliviana alba and red but didn't have success hence ordering the plant. I still have the pot of seeds! I live in hope.

I'm not 100% sure but I think I bought a plant of Bolivia a couple of years ago.
It grew to 6feet in the first summer and apart from a few flowers when I bought it, it only started to bud up in late October.
Far too late and large for me.
