I believe that the paper license will not be renewed wth th same upon the holder reaching 70 yrs. 70 0nwards the license is renewable every three years.

I don't carry mine, has years ago people used to nick them

Had routen checks about 20 years ago and had to producer it, but now getting stopped by a PC or PSCO is rare you don't even see any, if you report things all you get is a ref number and that's it, reported 2 things this month and made 10 calls and still nowt done!!!

I never carry mine and have never done so. It is not a requirement and I carry as little as possible when I go out. If stopped by the police and asked to produce it you only have to take it to a police station within seven days. There are no current plans for that to be changed.

The only things I carry when going out are my house keys, a credit card, some cash (never get to use that now :noidea:), a pen (a cut down Bic so it fits in my pocket easier) and some tissues. No other I.D., no phone (don't have one) and I dislike carrying things - apart from the shopping to and from the car.

On holiday I do carry I.D. Passport (or, preferably, a copy of it), credit cards, and written info of where I'm staying - and a camera if I think I may need it. :)

I do have a modern plastic driving licence - every three years. They tell you to return your previous one to the DVLA but I can't see the purpose. Is there someone there that has a hobby of collecting them? :heehee:

I converted to a plastic driving license a few years ago, it was a bit embarrassing when I hired a car and they asked to see it, the paper one, it had been in my wallet for years and came out in about 10 separate pieces.

Now never carry the plastic one, they like credit cards, tend to get the writing rub off if you carry them around in a wallet.
Just a very cheap old piece of plastic not designed to last unless left in a drawer at home.

I have just a little trouble when I go to a National Trust property. I still have my old cardboard membership card and they have to accept it - but they can't get me counted on their tally. :heehee: They've been promising since 2011 to send me a barcoded plastic one. I reminded them three times and then gave up.

I've still got some petrol stamps  :loll:

Sorry @Logan my question wasn't meant for you, it was rhetorical as I am certain no ID in the UK has a verified phone number.

I can't think of a way round this unless people have to swipe their credit card as ID, then charge them £1000 if they subsequently can't be traced.

When people say you should always carry ID it takes me back to those old war films where the Gestapo demand to see your papers.
