He probably told you about a lot of countries that were in existence then but are definitely not now. Modern political thinking is that the UK not being on the European Continent is not European as it is not on the Continent of European. A lot of Geography in our days was decided by political and racial views rather than geographical facts.:dunno: Some folks interpret European as any country as "European" West of Russia and disregard the European continent coastline........so it's all a matter of old opinions and new opinions.

"noun. a continent in the W part of the landmass lying between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, separated from Asia by the Ural Mountains on the E and the Caucasus Mountains and the Black and Caspian seas on the SE. In British usage, Europe sometimes contrasts with England.""

If Britain is NOT part of Europe, then what continent does Britain belong to geographically speaking?

Are we part of the European Economic Community, then the answer should be NO.

It strikes me then that New Zealand cannot be part of Australasia?;)

    That's good. :roflol:

Its not my opinion that I'm referring to.:roflol:

It must be the opinion of those that say Britain is not part of Europe because it is not connected to the mainland.

When I was a lad, anything north of Gondwanaland was part of Eurasia in the northern part of Pangea. Then we all split apart and have been doing so for the last 160 million years. :dunno:

Typical of the EU - letting us join even though we aren't part of Europe ;) - it was almost as if they just wanted our money .

:ideaIPB: Ahh, think I've got it now, obviously what continent a country is in, is now whatever continent that country 'self identifies' as being in, a modern concept which supercedes my old Geography lessons.

You should watch Eurovision Song Contest more often, Scrungee. Very enlightening (and not just when Finland wins ahem ahem )

Breaking news - a number 10 insider reckons next weeks round of negotiations will end in no deal. We need certainty now - either way - to get ourselves ready for 1st January.

I'm sorry Barney - bully boy tactics don't work with the UK - we're too big to be bullied. You want to make it difficult for the EU to trade with the 5th largest economy in the world - that's your choice my friend.

This is what it's all about - it improves upon the current EU - Japan trade deal:

UK strikes £15.2bn trade deal with Japan

I did have to smile . The Gina Miller legal case which established that Parliament and not the Government had the authority to issue the Article 50 notice - is now being used to justify amending the WD.

Oooh the sweet irony of it :dbgrtmb:.

                          Gina Miller must be furious..:yikes:
