Dug up some verbena bonariensis (?) from my outside back border and planted them in the front corner border in my "purple and orange" section. Also moved some crocosmia Emily MacKenzie into that area too. I then moved a big penstemon that was in a pot in the back and planted it into the front border as it was needing a bit more colour right now.

fed all the hostas and applied the vine weevil killer to all my patio pots. I cant afford to lose any more plants to the damn grubs-so had to go down the chemical route.

also sprayed a lot of my plants with the SB invigorator and fed plants with Humic acid feed.

I just sat outside in the shade for an hour and there was a lovely light breeze and 25c. I potted up a triple white Brugmansia rooting and put a red Bougainvillea rooting in a Bonsai pot. I have some seedlings that have come up and stupidly did not label them! So now I have to go through what I planted last month ... and perhaps make a note. :rolleyespink:

Okay, think I have two Clianthus puniceus, (Kaka Beak Vine). three Clitoria ternatea (Butterfly Pea Vine) and a "sighting of" Leptospermum scoparium 'Rosea' (Manuka Honey shrub) peeking up. Also I noted the Pseuderanthemum laxiflorum (Shooting Star) rooting I had which died off may be resurrecting itself :fingers crossed: plus last week I planted Chorizema Diversifolium (Climbing Flame Pea) so am also keeping :fingers crossed:.

I'll be trimming back my Wisteria today. I heard you should trim back when the flowers stop. But it's been flowering all summer.

Anyone think that's a bad idea?

It is so beautiful and even more so in spring that I'd be mortified to hurt it inadvertently.

Weeded and dead headed. Then showers arrived so retreated to greenhouse and went through the winter growing bulbs to see how they had come through the summer. Good news was that none had vanished over the summer and quite a few were beginning to start into growth. So they got a judicious watering to get them started.

Don't worry about being late with pruning Wisteria, Anx, those pruning recommendations can be carried over into the Autumn and they're just showing you the ideal time and methods to do it, but Nature can be very forgiving.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

I've been out today in the garden, pruned the wisteria thought I best get it done and pruned the apple tree while I was up there . Tidied up the tomato plants cutting moldy bit off which is expected now with damp atmosphere in the GH , tidy up any other vulnerable plant in the GH as well mainly fuchsia and pelargoniums.

Found a rat in the GH sitting around looking very unwell clearly been poisoned, I moved it out of the way under a shrub, its not nice seeing an animal suffer a painful death no matter how much people don't like them.

Fed all the pots / tomato and dead headed.

Thought I see if I had any potatoes I weren't expecting anything seen as the frost got them in spring and the plants had been pitiful, got half a bucket of spuds not much but much more than I were expecting . I planted the wallflowers in that bed to grow on until they go into there final spot .

Been painting some aluminium to match the GH , its so I can attach the wire to it for the grapevine.

In comparison to you, @Gary J Bradford , we had a doddle of a day yesterday!

hubby helped me lift the rest of the turf on the drive bed extension, so we’ve cleared another 2m x 1.5m of sloped grass/moss. I barrowed all the turf down to near the compost bays, where I’ve stacked it upside down. Hopefully it will break down over the winter, giving me slightly improved soil to fill in holes etc in the grass (we have many collapsed mouse-runs, mouse holes, and fox “investigation” holes, which eventually grass over, and then lay in wait to turn an unsuspecting ankle).

I lifted a very sad hibiscus, that has sulked in its rather exposed position for nearly 5 years, and have planted it as the next “feature plant” on the extension. The Veronica that was growing at its base was removed and divided, and planted, along with an ice plant that was crowding in on a rosemary plant. A geranium sanguinium that had seeded itself in the grass was lifted and planted. A thyme which would have been in the way of the next flight of steps was split, and a creeping thyme was removed from creeping over all the the bottom step on the first flight of steps. Three echinops young plants, grown from seed, were planted in. (Today’s job will be to wander round the rest of the garden finding other likely candidates to be moved).

We then planted some bulbs in this new section - allium christophii, tulip “blushing lady”, crocus vernus “king of the striped”, and some mixed iris hollandica. Hopefully we have put in too many for the local mice to eat in one winter!
