Busy this morning trimming the hedges.
Hopefully that'll be the last one this year!
They might need a light skim during October.
The hedge is 60 years old and may well see me out.
I don't know what the life expectancy is, but it still looks good.
I usually give it a very deep almost savage cut in March/April and by June it's always lush with new green growth.

I'll have to do a close-up of the lawn by the summerhouse, when I get my new camera, as it's about 80% weeds. Mainly clover and daisies with a heavy dash of moss. :heehee: When it's cut nicely it looks good. :blue thumb:

Planting bulbs, more bulbs and still have a few left for another day. I need to get a bulb planter with a stick instead of the hand held one (blisters) a little weeding along the way too.

I didn't know they came in that colour. Yours look a bit different to mine. I have purple and pink. Which would go nicely with yellow :). Where did you get yours from ARMANDII?

Forgot to put a pic up, had to tydy the edge of the lawn before planting, when hubby cuts the grass he doesn't do the edges so they get forgotten.

Bought a bag of 50 daffodils bulbs from hardware store yesterday. Had a short potter around in garden in the afternoon. Didn't get much done, just a bit of cutting back of perennials in a border in the back garden and made a start on trying to tidy up/weed the area around the willow tree. Had a couple of surprises whilst wandering around. The Russian vine I bought several years ago and which I thought had died had grown up through some Hawthorne trees and actually has a few flowers on it :). It's in a very large lot (kind you out trees in ) but it's quite shaded and the compost hasn't been changed since I planted the Russian vine. Another job to do, moving and replacing some of the compost. I noticed two splashes of yellow/Orange colour down by the boat, whinging turned out to be Kniphofia. Planted by a previous owner and thought to have been destroyed when the new soakaway and pipe was out in. Can't say they are my most favourite of flowers but I guess they can stay.

I spent a little time looking at the areas of very long, which grass, which I need to cut and contemplating how It going to cut them. I always check the grass first before cutting but it's even thicker and longer than usual this year and I'm a bit concerned about cutting it without being able to see what I'm doing. I found a Toad in one bit of grass last year.

I've been constructing a hen house/run in my daughter's garden ready for 3 hens that arrived today.

Made from a converted dog kennel, salvaged decking boards, mesh offcuts, gleaned paving slabs, timber from skips, polycarbonate roof sheeting from an old coldframe, etc.

Hadn't quite got it finished when they arrived, so sorted out some temporary accommodation until their bedroom was finished about 30 mins ago, probably no worse than some people's Spanish holiday hotels.

Heard a rumbling whilst working yesterday morning, thought something was falling over next door and said "WTF was that?" Apparently it was an earthquake!

Yes we can get earthquakes here, there was one here in redditch over 20 years ago, it was like if someone slammed a door shut and didn't last long.

Only managed around 20 minutes in the back garden today. Too busy with other projects mainly of this variety. These pics are of a few of my summer pieces. Now making for xmas. Anyway, pulled out a few more seeds from around the willow tree and swept the path. Found an owl pellet in one of the bun runs. Didn't know there were owls around here anymore as haven't heard or found evidence of them for several years. Sat on the patio for half and hour. Soon as I say down the rats appeared, I think they must be lying in wait for me somewhere :heehee: :loll:. Have seen or heard the Goldfinches since the other day .

                            Nice art work..
You've struck a chord though, cos we too could here owls most nights in the local woods.
                            Also cuckoo's every spring.
Sadly no more, I'd like them to return because the more diverse the wildlife the better.
I really miss the one's that have declined.

Early on I went for a walk with a friend and we picked blackberries along the way.
Back home I had a busy morning filling up the green bins before they're collected on Saturday.
I planted a saracococca near the house for some winter scent. I sorted through the bulbs in the shed and discarded the grotty ones.
