Small White on Bristly Ox-tongue (that plant is dreadful nuisance when it dies and our Cocker Spaniel runs through it getting it stuck in his fur).



Small Tortoiseshell on Common Fleabane



Speckled Wood. After an absence of many weeks, they have returned to the woodland edge we walk along most days, probably attracted by the ripe blackberries.

 

This looks like a nice place to warm up, the gauge say 25c so will do nicely

 

Red Underwing Moth. I was able to identify that one in my daughter's garden from a brief description before I'd even walked up to it, as it's pictured in the latest BC email.

 

Nice to see two new species in my garden last week, four Gatekeepers and a Meadow Brown. Planting about a dozen marjoram plants soon so hopefully will see many more of these. Small Tortoiseshells are visiting in far greater numbers than last year, had about 25 in my rather small back garden on Saturday, pleased to see them doing well!

A beautiful elephant hawk moth in my garden in South Derbyshire. So fluffy I wanted to snuggle it

 

A lovely shot and it's very well camouflaged against the background.

 

I know, I almost missed him! So glad he caught my eye and I got a photo. I might dig out an old sheet and torch and see what other dudes hang out in my garden

 

Hummingbird Hawk moth, difficult to get a shot of as they are soooo fast, it has started coming more regularly in the last few days and always goes for Salvia Icing Sugar as it's main nectar source. When settled, which is not very often, it doesn't look as showy.
