BLUE COLEUS

I have seen a plant called Blue Coleus, and also seen seeds advertised on web sites but reviews show them to be false. I live in west Ireland and cant find any being sold here, do these plants as shown in the photo actually exist? and if so can someone please tell me of a reputable dealer, im just starting to renovate a small plot ofgarden and these would be ideal to grow, thanks in advance if someone is willing to help me.

 

Photo looks dodgy to me, colour wise.

 

Does look a bit too vivid, obviously im not after such a vibrant blue, surely someone has grown a blue coleus and has a real picture thats not photo shopped to such an extent.

 

Never heard of a blue coleus.

 

thats a good reson why there not selling any, just the seeds that would probably turn out to be Grain,

 

If it does exist and it is a coleus it wouldn't be a hardy garden plant anyway.
Coleus are tender perennials, summer bedding or pot plants.

 

i always thought they could survive a touch of frost if covered up when its expected, not much frost in the very west of Ireland, im very doubtful any plant could be so vividly blue on its leaves, i was looking at Mr Coleus plants on here and he dosen't seem to have any in his collection.

 

There is a seller located in China, who advertises on Ebay. Specialities are blue flowered plants. One such advert was for Blue African type, Crackerjack marigolds. Seems nobody ever receives any seeds.

I don't think coleus would survive a winter in my frost free greenhouse.
Minimum night temperatures would need to be 10c and probably rising to 16c during the day.
Surviving one night of very light ground frost under a cover is not the same as going through a whole winter.

 

I saw those and was tempted (out of curiosity) but bought nixed colours instead and sowed those last week and they have germinated. Mine of course live outdoors permanently in filtered shade.

 

I take it Portugal has a warmer climate than Ireland Victoria, i have bought some of the ones i mentioned and will see if they germinate, if i get Triffids growing then so be it, like Pete said we do get long cold winters in this part of Europe so i will grow whatever comes up, be it Triffids or Beanstalks.

there are blue coleus seeds being sold on Amazon by a company called Groseed, based in Conwy. Only a couple of quid so I'm tempted to buy some in order to investigate! I've only ever had coleus once before and it was one that was given to me already in full bloom, so is this a good time of year to buy the seeds?
