In many ways the app thing has been a bit of a nightmare. I don't have a smartphone so started looking into getting one. The specific phones required are way beyond my price range, especially as I'd be taking a risk because I'm not good with phones at all and would probably break or lose it very quickly. So much for a "free" app! There are also many environments where it doesn't work and/or can give false positive results.
On the other hand, any take up will still be beneficial. Also, I may be wrong on this but I think the bluetooth aspect means it will pick up anyone else (anonymously) who has registered within a certain vicinity, and alert you if they later report testing positive, one step ahead of standard track & trace where you would only find out if that person alerted the premises.
I've no plans to get it as yet. I am never in close proximity to anyone in any public place for longer than a few moments, we're protected at work via ppe etc, and I generally only use one shop.
Administering it for work along with track & trace has been an interesting experience. Most people are fine with it and I always make a point of explaining why its being used to anyone who doesn't know, so they don't just think we are trapping their data. I have only had two abusive responses, both were very unpleasant, so I would just ask - if you are approached in a shop or public place and asked to give your details for track & trace or use this app, don't have a go at the person asking you, even if you strongly disagree with the system for whatever reason. Please remember they're just doing their job.

I endorse that sentiment - don't shoot the messenger!

I don't have a phone, either, and neither do I get anywhere near anybody else for more than a few seconds, so I shall politely decline to give my details if asked - unless it's a rule of entering the premises and I need to go in there.

My main reason for owning a smart phone is because if i was to suffer a car breakdown, the RAC would pin point me with GPS in seconds.
Also I've found it very convenient...for instance I'm using it now to print this reply.
I don't need to fire up the lap top.
This is a Sony Experia and it cost me £130 at Argos. My stepson insists on a i phone at c£1000. Kids.. Gasp.
To finish on topic, corona virus is out there and it is down to each individual to judge their own needs and particular risk.

An extremely valid reason :blue thumb: - but I've been driving for close on 60 years and not needed one, yet. I can't bring myself to buy a phone - and remember to carry it :heehee: - just for that reason. :)

It is out there and it is very serious indeed for some folks (I am almost definitely one of them wiht my history) but the current scattergun approach is neither solving the problem nor giving any confidence to anyone - in fact, it is leading to the dissent and unrest that is being seen in my opinion.

Currently, it would seem we have a Test & Trace system that is less than useless, the tests themselves are giving so many false positives that it is akin to being asked to go and find needles in haystacks and the tests themselves are running out because all and sundry are going to get them when they have as much as a sniffle.

We should be testing only those who really need it - preferably being verified as needing a test by a medical professional, and then give the very best of care to those that do find themselves needing it. We should not be wasting money on unnecessary and repeated testing and blowing our economy to pieces - particularly as a large chunk of the positive tests are the common cold.

This government is so scared of its own shadow, so concerned with how it looks and not offending the perennially offended, so concerned with trying to please everyone that in reality it is pleasing absolutely nobody. They need to grow a pair and start doing their job properly.

They'll be damned if they do and they'll be damned if they don't. There isn't an easy fix to this no matter what Keir Stirrer says..

Surely the dumb arse's will consider cleaning up their food market practices..
While they are about it, they could consider their general attitude to carbon emissions etc.
Is it too much to expect?

Since when did ambition and greed give way for intelligence? And that goes for most countries ...

Was said tongue in cheek, but they really should get some come back from all this.
They might be intelligent, but that is probably what makes them dangerous.

I do sometimes wonder if this is indeed a bio-weapon that was released by China, if only going by the reaction of the world's governments to it - - they seem to know something that they are not letting on, and whilst I accept that the final throes of Brexit and the US elections are definitely muddying the waters, it does make you wonder what is going on that they are not telling us? Is the concern that if they did tell us that folks would be baying for retaliation (particularly in the US) and they know that would involve nukes in this day and age?
