They are sending texts/emails to everyone who has given those details to their GP

This is a public health message from NHS Test and Trace
As part of the government’s coordinated response to Coronavirus, NHS Test and Trace has developed the new NHS COVID-19 app.

It is now available for download to all residents of England and Wales. We strongly recommend that everyone over the age of 16 downloads and uses it.

Download the ‘NHS COVID-19’ app from the App Store or Google Play. There is more information at https://covid19.nhs.uk

The app will help you to understand and manage your personal risk and reduce the spread of Coronavirus. The more people who use it, the more effective it will be.

The app requires operating system 13.5 or above if you have an Apple iPhone. It requires Android 6.0 or above if you have an Android phone. If your smartphone is not compatible, you can still access full support from the NHS Test and Trace service.

          NHS Test and Trace

All individuals over the age of 16 who are registered with a GP in England and have provided an email address to the NHS are receiving this email. Some people will receive a text message instead, if an email address has not been provided.

Is what they are doing to students at university legal?
just watching it they are as good as in prison, with guards and security on locked gates.

If it was my daughter @pete - I would be taking her out of university, bringing her home and stopping the course payments. Utterly ridiculous situation

My next door neighbours son has been out of university since March, only going back now for one day a week as it is local.
But he signed up to contract for accommodation, so has still been paying for that, and still is although he is not using it.
Also fees for the course and doing it all at home pretty much.

I'd guess that if the US did have evidence of DELIBERATE bio warfare from China, they would have retaliated in a more robust way than just words.
Piers Corbyn believes that it's all a hoax... They need to build some new asylums.

The police and security guards at MMU are not letting out those who have had negative tests.

The students are probably blaming Boris, Tory Scum, etc., but I thought these local lockdowns are brought in by the Local Authorities, like Andy Burnham, their Labour Mayor. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Has The Government or Manchester politicians decided on the details of locking down these 2 Halls of residence occupied by teenagers attending their first year at Uni?

I'd cancel it and sue the university for the costs of the accommodation - they failed to provide the service paid for, therefore should be liable for the associated costs. I'd like to bet if parents and students started withholding money that this whole situation would change rather rapidly

How can they do that though? That is false imprisonment, surely?

Just my personal thoughts, but are they hoping to expose students to the virus in a controlled way, using them as some kind of guinea pigs or a start in getting some kind of resistance out there.
Because without that we are going nowhere very slowly.

A human rights barrister is already looking into the situation and thinks that a private security firm is not allowed, by law, to do it.

Local authorities have been given the right, by the government to bring in a lock down.

Some universities are refunding some of their fees, waiving rents and giving the students cash for food.
