That is a possibility but I can't see how having a mobile phone and the app would have any effect on the chance of contracting the virus.

It would, of course, then be able to check/report others that may have been alongside you whilst travelling. If someone alongside you has the virus (and they're alongside you for the requisite time that they say is necessary to have the higher risk of contracting it) then the app may be of use but you contracting it from surfaces is not directly relevant to the need for the app.

It's easy for me to talk about not needing the app as I don't go on public transport, don't go near other people (apart from quickly passing them in shops), and am in the lucky position that when we meet friends we are able to be more than the recommended 2 metre distant with regular air changes :noidea:. There are very many people not able to be in such a position so the app is a good precaution - if it works! There are still a great deal of people reporting that the app won't accept them inputting a negative test result .

One of our younger 'friends' was at that Trafalgar Square rally (and believed what was said :rolleyespink:) and is no longer welcome. She may wish to take a chance but we don't!

I agree that students are not getting good value, but that was the case prior to the covid 19 situation anyway. In 2019 my daughter had just one and a half days of lectures over one week! Hopefully the university staff have had time over the summer to prepare and deliver value for money, I doubt that will happen.

The app doesn't collect any personal data @Sheal

I guess what I'm thinking is … if I get the notification saying I've shared a train with someone who reported a positive test, there is every chance we touched the same railing, door or whatever at some point during the journey. I'm taking hand sanitizer with me on journeys and in theory that should cover me, but it can't be a 100% guarantee or else virtually no-one would be getting covid. A friend of mine was diagnosed with covid last week and he works from home, and that has focused my mind on the risks of it again.

Couldn't have said it better myself:

"This isn't about breaking rules," said Baroness Finlay. "This is about caring about the people who you love, who matter to you and realising that if you take that virus home, or you give it to somebody who you're fond of and love, and they are desperately sick, you live with that guilt for the rest of your life."

A friend of Mrs Scrungee's has a grandchild at Bath Uni and said they are locked down and only getting one hour of online lectures a week.

Don't know whether this has been posted already but it's always good to take the pee out of situations and, possibly, give a bit of lightness to a serious situation.

You might want to check, as I am not sure, but I believe there is a version specifically for the Scottish NHS. If I see anything of it around online, I will post back.

Wine is a good test for sure. I must buy some more test kits tomorrow. JR do you have any I could pop by and try? Lol

Hmmm just read that myself and the app I use is for England and Wales, so maybe there is an equivalent app for Scotland as FC suggests. Confusing to say the least!
