I have seen the online ads about a USB memory stick, Xtra-PC. Has anyone tried it? I have a Dell Inspiron laptop that has been rubbish from the word go. It seems a waste just to bin it. It's been in and out of the repair shop no end of times. Now it seems the o/s Win XP-Pro has given up the ghost. Just wondered about hooking it upto the telly for you tube etc.

    Hi,

Remember reading about that some time ago, think the general comment was Snake Oil !!

Hooking it up to the TV ? - isn't your tv a Smart one ? - well worth getting a Smart one if you are into that kind of viewing, just connect it to your router via cable or wifi , no need for the laptop.

Buying a new laptop might be expensive or be some time to get a particular model etc as everyone has been buying them for the camera /video chats during lockdown.
Worth looking at the manufacturers sites and direct sales like Dell , HP or specialist builders -

Looking around the web at laptops, seems they are at least £100 dearer ! compared to what they were selling for at the beginning of the year and to get something with a half decent performance you will be looking around £500 + .
The low priced end of the laptop market seems to have disappeared !

If you do not mind pluging a few things tother, what you might find a more practical alternative, if like me you tend to still use the PC in one place, and thats a desktop box ( fitted under the desk) which is much faster and you can use a large 24" or 27" screen with separate cordless mouse and keyboard ?
So much easier on the eyes and hands, plus you can fit some decent speakers quiet cheaply if you like a better quality sound.

      A decent base plus W10 - ( we buy from CCL )
      Alpha 3000G | CCL Computers
or buy W10 a lot cheaper with this genuine offer

I used PC Specialist's to build a Desk Top earlier this year with an AMD Razen 9 Processor and other bits and pieces and they did a great job.

I would get a refurb unit from a specialist site . Some incredible bargains if you hit the site at the right time. Cant remember the name atm.

I just cast to my tv with a Chromecast. Tv is a lcd 10 year old.
100 quid for computer, 20 quid Chromecast, sorted.

Mikes gone very quiet ? !

Hope he's not gone into Input Overload with all this PC and TV techno stuff; it can be very confusing for us older ones.:rolleyespink:

Just want to say, come on back and ask away if you are unsure about any of above the points.:)

That's because of all the home schooling during lockdown. I bought my grandchildren a cheap laptop in April so they could join in classes online. There wasn't much available then.
