Thank you @JWK and @Fat Controller. :) I've looked at both and I agree it doesn't seem to collect any personal data. But being the sceptic I am - the app can be traced to the phone and the phone can be traced to the owner and so on....

I get the feeling, these days, that if you have ever done anything via the internet then you are being tracked regarding information.
I don't think my location, which presumably, the app tracks is different to me using Google maps for instance.

Even if it does track me (although it's not supposed to) I don't care. It's a fight against a deadly disease so loss of a little privacy is well worth it. I have nothing to hide anyway. Lets face it big brother is collecting data on us all regardless of smartphones, if you use cards for payments the banks know what you have bought and when and where. Loyalty cards are even worse.

I've been told (by somebody who tried it) that once you've installed the app on your phone you can't delete it.

A factory reset should do it, but would be a PITA to get everything else back on it.

If that is true, and if I had a phone, it would be a reason for me not downloading the app. I would be happy to do so but I want the choice.

Of course you can delete it. Along with all the data it holds. I don;t get all the scaremongering about the app, all it does it hold a 'token' from when you scan in or register you have attended somewhere like the library, and then if someone else who has also logged themselves there declares they have tested positive then those people get a notification. It doesn't care where you are day to day, hour to hour; it would be a pointless function. If the government want to track you then they can and will, they don;t need an NHS app to do it!

I have similar problems with this fitness app I downloaded, I take my phone with me when I go for a walk but most of the day i'm wandering around the garden or allotment or doing other things and the phone is too big to be bothered with.
The app thinks I'm sitting on my bum most of the day, when it's actually the phone which is doing that.

EDIT The following is a quote of a post by @JWK

Public transport is deep cleaned within an inch of its life on a daily basis now, and specialist cleansing fluids are used that kill coronavirus, so your risk is limited to transmission on that particular day. You could limit that with gloves I suppose, but truthfully that would require disposable gloves to be fully effective, and I remain wholly unconvinced that they would be.

The problem with a lot of my views are that you immediately get button-holed as a Covid-denier, or a conspiracy theorist, and that is very dangerous. There are a lot of medical professionals out there who are questioning the data, and rightly so because the data being used is flawed.

The scaremongering from Vallance and Whitty is remarkable - yet because they are in the position they are, people instantly believe them. Their figure of 50k cases a day by mid-October being prime example of that - that is not just scaremongering, but weapons-grade scaremongering. Vallance has a vested interest, financially, in the company given the contract to make the vaccine let's remember.

Not denying there is a virus - just looking for some critical thinking and would like to see us concentrate our efforts and money on treating those who are ill rather than the current scattergun approach. Let's listen to all the science - Prof Sikora being one example - but we need to do able to do so without them being shouted down if their view doesn't fit the current narrative. Scientists get things wrong all the time - that is how they learn and discover.

Let's also remember that the common cold will trigger a positive result for Covid - not surprising given it is a coronavirus. So not only are we muddying our data with cases of the common cold, but we are seeking a vaccine for something that we have never been able to cure.[/QUOTE]I

I totally agree. The governments main achievement has been to ship up frenzied paranoia in the population which will have real consequences in people's (and particularly young people's and children) attitude towards others and social intefactions. Covid warrior parents are very successfully turning their offspring into rampant covid warriors too.

It would help if the government were to push the percentage of tests that's are positive on a daily basis, although it would be too much to expect them to compare it to the percentage when the virus was at its height.

This second wave of coronavirus is simply not as deadly, says PROFESSOR KAROL SIKORA | Daily Mail Online

Most of North Wales will be in near lockdown from Thursday (not Anglesey of Gwynedd) - no one may leave their own County unless they have good reason. The Police will be sitting on the main routes stopping people. Bizarrely, tourists can travel non stop through Flintshire, Denbigh, Conwy and Wrexham to get to Anglesey and Gwynedd. That makes pefect sense to me....

You watch - there will be a spike of cases in Anglesey and Gwynedd - imported by the tourists from England - who will flock to these Counties.

All the effort we put in to stop the virus, it appears, was for nothing....

You either stay in total lock down or end up with cases on the increase.

Boris says follow the rules and we will get through this, but what are we heading for, what is the aim:dunno:
