I totally agree. The governments main achievement has been to ship up frenzied paranoia in the population which will have real consequences in people's (and particularly young people's and children) attitude towards others and social intefactions. Covid warrior parents are very successfully turning their offspring into rampant covid warriors too.

It would help if the government were to push the percentage of tests that's are positive on a daily basis, although it would be too much to expect them to compare it to the percentage when the virus was at its height.

This second wave of coronavirus is simply not as deadly, says PROFESSOR KAROL SIKORA | Daily Mail Online[/QUOTE]

It is a quote of me, not @JWK ;) Not that it matters a jot, I cannot think of a finer person to be confused with :)

Sounds about right - when have we ever known a politician take responsibility for anything?

I agree, but we all seem to be forgetting that we're also not taking responsibility ourselves for any actions we do, or don't do, to keep the infection spreading. Everyone seems to be able to question the lockdowns, think that there is a solution to all the complex reasons why people can't do this or that, but not find a solution.

In fairness @ARMANDII, I think most folks actually are taking responsibility - they (like me) may bemoan the inconsistencies and lack of science in the decisions that are being taken but they comply with the relevant safety measures. I also offered a suggested solution earlier in this thread, but apparently it was too harsh... personally, I would much rather have four weeks of total shutdown and then back to normal than this flip-flopping our way through for months, especially bearing in mind that we are now six months into a two week set of restrictions.....

Remember, the lockdowns are to "flatten the curve" and "control" the virus not eradicate it, that cant happen, because the next flight into the country will bring it back in.
Apart from a vaccine the only chance is immunity within the population, which is basically what a vaccine does.
So controlled infection is the only way to go.

But as we know, you can't control the infection - if they could. there would be no need for lockdown or subsequent measures.

Oh, and the curve has been flat since around May/June, yet the NHS never took in all those folks needing surgery or cancer treatments, so now they are dying too.

                          Lockdown is the "control".;)

The flat curve means a trickle of cases, not overpowering the NHS.

The NHS has done the same as lots of other places, used the virus as a good reason to shut down, or work at a reduced capacity.

Boris visited a business the other day and didn't wear a mask. Maybe the virus, after having bitten him before, decided politicians are very unpalatable! So he doesn't need a mask.
