After another bout of illness I phoned the doctors ( no use when I was ill as I couldn’t travel ) ,
Got a phone back and a appointment 40 minutes after that brill.

went doctors had to stand in queue outside in not a warm day, eventually the receptionist noticed my leaning on the wall with my stick and asked me in to sit down to wait. Others had to stand outside, then a car pulled into the disabled spot by the door and a lady went inside whilst her husband sat with the engine running gassing everyone in the queue.
The mind boggles with how people think

That's exactly the battle I'm having with the bloomingly saintly Inner Moralist Selleri. :wallbanging: My gut instinct is to refer to every childhood fairytale where The Bad Guys have their Comeuppances and the Good Guys Win.

And then the Little Moralist reminds me to judge (and to make jokes) on a person's actions, not on his circumstances.

And then the Little Moralist's Neighbour (LMN) reminds that Keeping Up Appearances was a tv show, not a moral code to follow and judging others is creeping around the corner.

GAAAHHHH! :gaah: On a positive note, we have had some good discussions on the subject with my Teenager today. How do we react, privately and publicly?

No rights nor wrongs here, but a wake up call personally. And that's Personally, the LMN is nagging at me on thinly veiled self promotion. Point taken, LMN.

It's a bit hard of a situation, but thankfully we have popcorn and wine. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

The sad thing is that like him or not, agree with his politics or not, agree with him or not, there are those who have openly come out on social media to wish the guy dead. They are too stupid to realise that sort of talk only makes them look bad, and if anything is likely to drive more folks to vote for the guy out of sympathy!

I was eating my dinner when I posted this - well worth a watch, and very interesting; the stand out figure to me was the circa 1000 people dying per week of flu at the moment versus circa 40 of Covid.

              Not covid-19 really but related
I am vunerable and have been shielding
I have tried and tried to get the Flu Vaccine jag
People I know who are not shielding managed to get the Flu Jag two days before it was national
(Scotland) I tried all day the 1 Oct, and got nowhere
Your call is important to us, after six minutes you are being transfered to Fife Flu centre
"Sorry we are so busy we can not take your call"

Today I tried 46 times getting the same message but I kept on, then Bingo your call is important to us and then it started ringing, you are in a queue, your call will be handled in the order it was received, I hung on for 16 minutes and got a human who arranged an appointment a week today

Now how will we cope IF they do get a Vacine available, it will be impossible to arrange an appointment for this much needed injection to save your life

Lots of anti lockdown stuff going on now, they are going to find it harder to enforce second time round, bearing in mind, as a lot of people see it, it didn't work the first time.

I do not think that any Flu vaccine can be effective and protect you from having a flu. My opinion is based on the fact that there are so many varieties of Flu that it is impossible to create one vaccine for all varieties. The vaccine is more for self satisfaction that you got it and you're flu free. If you have been shielding it is already enough not to get a flu. It's better to concentrate on improving your immune system and have a stress free life.

@Jack McHammocklashing doesn't your surgery send you a letter each year about having the vaccine? Ours does. :noidea: They send the letter to all their older patients.

For a couple of reasons I don't have the vaccine and they have that on my records but they send the letter out as a batch lot. I'm much less likely to catch it now as I no longer mix with many people and wear a mask and keep my distance at all times. Nobody wants to get near me anyway :heehee:

But, pete, it did work, at least in France where it was implemented quickly. They'd all but wiped Covid out until the tourist season/freedom of movement between countries started again. No-one will ever know whether a longer lockdown would have stopped it definitively.

Flu viruses are constantly changing, flu vaccines may be updated from one season to the next to protect against the viruses. So there are many different vaccines, with others being developed. Each flu season the prevalent virus type is predicted and that vaccine type is manufactured and issued. No vaccine will be 100% effective, not sure how effective each seasons will be.

But it didn't work, ;) it never will wipe it out entirely, it's a global pandemic, it will always be lurking some where in the world ready to make a comeback when conditions allow.
Lockdown only slows transmission, it's too well distributed now.

A graph showing deaths due to respiratory illnesses for the past four years:

                            Resp Deaths - last 4 yrs.jpg

The notable line for me is the grey one - 2018. The light blue lis this year, and whilst fatalities are rising, they are still lower than the prior three years. Note - graph pinched from an internet website, I am making no claims nor warranties that the data is verified.

Corona versus other respiratory deaths this year:

                            Corona v others.png

Surely if masks worked, they would work for influenza which is also transmitted by airborne aerosol.

I am off to predict that I am going to get bills for over £1m next month, but I will be changing some light shades and washing the curtains which may or may not help. When I get bills of £2k next month, I will be able to prove how successful I have been in saving all that money.....

That's what happens here, they send a letter out with 1/2 hours slots for alphabetic surnames. No need to confirm just turn up. Our slot is 10:30-11:00 this morning. Previous years we walk in/out in less than a minute. I guess there will be a queue in the car park this time but hoping everyone will be sensible, keeping distance and wearing masks.

We have letters and emails sent out inviting you to book your time. I was 3pm and hubs was 3:01 pm ....couldn't fault the system at all, in through the front door to be greeted by the team ..one taking notes and the other armed with the syringe..then out through the back door. We left our car at 2:54pm and were sitting back in it at 2:58pm. All done and dusted before our allotted appointment!

                                Brilliant!:dbgrtmb:
