I couldn't quite believe it when he told me he was doing it - but then for £500, I can see why. The really sad bit about it is that the virus certainly exists, the virus is certainly a nasty wee sod, but we are spending a fortune and wrecking our economy on the basis of something that we are not impacting in any way. There is a class action lawsuit apparently being started by the lawyers who took VW etc to court (and won) and they have the backing of the inventor of the PCR test that is being used.... he states that it is useless for detecting a virus in this way, so the results are essentially garbage; he would know, he invented the test!

We are being lied to on a massive scale.

It's the ONS test programme. We take part and are paid £25 per test. Each! During the first month we were tested weekly, which made the Teenager very happy and grew my Villeroy&Boch plate collection nicely. ONS also paid for my tulips.

Since I only leave the house for walks, get all my shopping online and work from home, and my physical social contacts are limited to, well, the ONS Lady who pops into the doorway weekly, I'm unlikely to test positive. However, The Teenager goes to Uni (or rather The Uni ) so is at high risk so it sort of evens things out.

I think this kind of random testing is very valuable even though as the participation is voluntary, may not reflect the nation- probably many people didn't bother reading through the invitation letter to find out about the very generous compensation. Only random sampling gives reliable picture of the situation, and in this survey the participating sample is big enough to give some good data.

And guess who pays the compensation? The Taxpayer. Me! ;)

FC this is so awful....we've always taken what we've been told with a huge pinch ( bucketfull) of salt..but there is a limit to how much garbage we can take.
It's plain to see that we know nothing of the real situation at all and are definitely being spun a yarn!!

Hi @Selleri ..yes agree that maybe a programme of appropriately selected people for random testing could be a good way to go , but as you pointed out , due to your lifestyle you are not really an appropriate candidate......so...:dunno:!!!

Are the ONS going to do random testing for cancer? What about influenza? Why are we testing anyone that is not ill?? Waste of money as far as I am concerned, sorry.

Even if you are to test positive, what does it mean? My car could pass it's MOT tomorrow and then fail a roadside check the following day.

Test folks who have symptoms - help them by treating those symptoms (regardless whether positive or negative) and then by all means if they do test positive try and trace those they have been in contact with. Currently, we are getting false positives from folk with the cold and quite literally not seeing the wood for the trees.

Agree, I'm not the most exiting specimen to study :heehee: Then again, many of my friends live like I do at the moment so perhaps I represent the silent mass of miserable old gits who don't have a life. I wonder if they have a tick box for that in their survey...

I don't think that we're being spun a yarn or that covid is not serious. As I see it CoCo the clown now realised that he and his government played an active part in killing tens of thousands of care home residents and they will do anything at all to avoid another situation where their incompetence is lain bare. Coupled to the fact that they are now beginning to understand just how many avoidable deaths from other health issues have occurred or are coming over the next couple of years means that they are crapping themselves at the thought of it actually getting a meaningful foothold again.
Boris understands his own incompetence but lacks the moral fibre to behave honourably and resign - that is why I prayed that covid would take him, for the good of the people. Harsh I know.

Aww....@Selleri, no I didn't mean to insinuate that at all!!. You and me seem to have the same lifestyle. :dbgrtmb:

All I meant was that your daughter was a more appropriate candidate, than folk like us who are leading ' a quiet life' Test away but only on appropriate people who will give a more reliable picture on what is truly going on.

I thought they said that it you had your clothes on in the '60s you weren't there!!

It may seem a bit trite talking about sex on this thread but the fact is that it is a primal urge and one that does enhance the quality of life for many people. But now single young people are expected to become celibate as are young couples not yet long together.

I never have understood the test, test, test idea.

What does it prove if you are testing people with no symptoms, I presume we are looking for the so called asymptomatic ones out there.

But that's surely like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Unless you test the whole country every day I cant see as you are going to find the blighters.;)

I'm working on something that will help people keep their distance.

It's the new 'Shiney's Distancing Spray' made up of all the most obnoxious smells available. It's part of a complete package. Before going out you put on your oldest, tattiest clothes (we can sell you some if you don't have any) and spray yourself with Distancing Spray. Everyone will keep away from you. :dbgrtmb:
