It was watered every other day and the temps were pretty tropical! Will be turning out the ones I planted in tubs on the terrace next week....it will be interesting to see how they've done in comparison. It's certainly an improvement on last year

I'll be finding out over the next few months :loll: But, yes...so far made chips, mash, curry and roasted them with butternut squash. They're reputed to be healthier than potatoes :dbgrtmb:

Just picked this lovely veg for todays lunch.
Mrs ewing thinks I'm clever but it was the good soil that produced it!

                  Hi Clara,
If you like beans then you could grow some next Spring.
Just put a good strong wigwam of supports in the ground.
Put two seeds to a support in mid May (Gloucester is mild)
                  And off they'll go.
If you prepare a patch early (like now) you could enrich the soil with manure or compost.
Then your beans will reward you!

                    I don't have
I don't have space at home for beans but in the past my neighbour has said I can use some of his allotment space. He grows his beans at home so maybe he'll show me.

                    Clara x

This was back in 26th September.

Gale force winds had snapped the bean supports.

So, the dual crop had to be harvested.

The orange-green one was actually from a rogue plant which I let grow.

                          The obligatory weigh-in.

Sadly, the container grown whopper was pilfered.

It was a Dill's Atlantic Giant and probably weighed about 10-15kg judging by size on the previous day.

Looks like Jack O Lantern variety that start off green and turn orange on time for Halloween.

That is a possibility since it came from a rogue plant which might have germinated from a stray seed that I put into the compost heap along with the shop bought Jack O Lantern pumpkin that I carved last year.

On the other hand, the weight and size of the pumpkin tells me that it will not be very hollow.
