      Interesting information today.

They keep talking about Track And Trace not working well. I was talking to someone from the local authority track and trace about why the National System seems unable to find a lot of people and it turns out that they only contact people by phone or text. They never use email!

Even I know two people that have only given their name, email address and home address. National Track and Trace don't seem to know how to check with Directory Enquiries. The local system only contact isolating people to check whether they need help (shopping, prescriptions etc.) but are not involved in tracing possible infected contacts.

      Rubbish national system! :wallbanging:

I live very near a bus stop, while putting my bin out a middle aged was sneezing into his hand, he got on the bus with no mask. So the Filthy Dirty B~@$%"& was spreading his germs on the bus hand rails.

I've given up trying to understand the whole track and trace subject. I don't doubt it is needed and it helps, and I am responsible for administering it by means of taking names and numbers etc as part of my day job, but it seems never to have worked properly and, for the most part, caused nothing but trouble. Everyone seems to think they could design an easy, glitch-free alternative system and constantly points out why the current one is rubbish, but it never seems to improve, nor people stop complaining about it. I often hear that "in other countries" they have brilliant track and trace systems that have worked perfectly, yet the rates of infection are going up and down everywhere else as well - I don't think track and trace is the magic bullet many people seem to think it is. In fact, I think its an example of how many people are frightened and bewildered by the whole situation and focus on slightly peripheral issues as be-all's-and-end-all's because it gives them somewhere to focus their frustrations, especially if the government/authorities can be blamed. As far as I can see, there are only three ways in which this virus can be stopped: one is a national lockdown for an indefinite period (unlikely, unethical and political suicide), another is a vaccine, which could be many months or years in the future and will not be a cure, just a way of keeping it at bay, and the third is if the virus somehow peters out naturally or fades to more manageable levels. Even with this, we will still need to implement restrictions to a considerable degree for a very long time to come.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the Government had given Councils money to help with children who at present get free school meals. I notice that on Wednesday Kent County Council were advertising on Facebook that parents should contact them for meal vouchers, did anyone know of this fact before the school holidays started? So how much was given to KCC or will it go and be spent on other things.

If they stopped testing the amount of new cases would plummet overnight.

How they can make comparisons between the amount of new cases now and how many there was last time round is a mystery to me.

                  Scientists now predicting 85,000 dead.

How many did they predict in the spring,............100,000 was it?

Yes, with the first national lockdown there was increasingly good weather, start of the growing season, more daylight, etc., but the reverse of all of those now.

Only 2 months to leek and onion seed sowing time

No. They said 20,000 would be a good result (I’m paraphrasing). As it turned out, it was double that.

Just learned. PM is going to do a total lockdown. Not blaming anyone but. BANG goes my cancer operation.

Not saying that all those who have ignored the warnings are to blame but. It makes you think. Makes you wonder.

Folks like to blame the government for all our ills, but when it comes down to it, it’s our fellow man that is the real culprit. I see it almost every day, folks ignoring the advice. Only this evening, there was some nitwit on the TV, declaring “the rules are there to be broken”. I despair. Sorry to hear you have cancer Mike, it must be worrying. I hope all goes well, eventually.

And only 7 weeks to the shortest day :hapfeet:. Once that is past, even if it's cold and wet, we're on the right side of the season :)

I think the problem is it depends upon which "expert " you decide to listen to.
No wonder the government haven't got a clue.

These lines from Kipling could be adapted for the current times.

"If any question why we died,
Tell them, because our fathers lied."

Just change 'fathers' to 'leaders'. :wallbanging:
