I was in luck this year no Aphids or Slugs,..i kept spraying on any dull day we had,.. with a mix of Neem Oil and Liquid Soap,..1 Tablespoon of each to a Litre of water,..more of each if just starting to prevent anything that eats your foliage,..your garden is a lot bigger than mine but 1 Litre of a fine spray covers a big area.

My dear late wife Jen, would say many times, "Can you splash a bit of paint on that wall as it's looking a bit tatty" Sometime later I arrived home to find the wall had been painted very bright Orange. I was then forced to repaint to match the rest of the kitchen.
Happy days.

 

Hello @KittyHound and a belated welcome to the forum. I think that you’ve already discovered it to be a friendly place, and it’s also great for advice, tips and suggestions.

We've lived here for 8 years now, and are still working hard at creating the garden we want. Just when you think that you’ve got an area sorted, something changes. For example, when we moved in, there was a large tree stump in the middle of the garden. I kept meaning to build one of those lovely circular tree benches to go round it, so the top of the stump became a sort of table top. Three years ago, overnight almost, the stump vanished, as the rotten trunk collapsed into the cavity where the roots had rotted away. So my circle of spring bulbs looked a little strange. Undeterred, on advice to create a woodpile in sunshine, to compliment my many shady woodpiles (accommodating different wildlife, apparently) it sort of made sense again. Yesterday I cut the lawn, mowing around the “stump woodpile” so that the bulbs would look good in a few months time. This afternoon, I’ve just walked past, and there’s a huge hole where someone has been digging - I suspect a fox. Time to re-think a new approach!

 

I tried both of those but no luck so I just chopped them down every time I some congregating! Seemed to do the trick-ish. I think next year should be good!

I've never heard of something like that happening!! We've got a stump in the garden which has been there for a good few years. I keep meaning to tackle it but I'm slightly overwhelmed - it sounds like I can just leave it and it'll disappear!? Your garden sounds lovely. Do you have a lot of wildlife? What are you thinking you'll do with that area now?

 

You can certainly do both kitty!!!....but a thread would be a good place to start....might get the initial views....
